This system is getting organised and could become a tropical storm later tonight or tomorrow morning (in which case it will be named Ingrid). Right now it's tracking further north than earlier storms and looks like it could be headed for the Gulf.

THE DEPRESSION IS MOVING TOWARD THE WEST-NORTHWEST NEAR 12 MPH...19 KM/HR...AND THIS GENERAL MOTION IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE ...

MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE NEAR 35 MPH...55 KM/HR...WITH HIGHER
GUSTS. SOME STRENGTHENING IS FORECAST DURING THE NEXT 24 HOURS
AND THE DEPRESSION COULD BECOME A TROPICAL STORM LATER TODAY OR TONIGHT.

ESTIMATED MINIMUM CENTRAL PRESSURE IS 1007 MB...29.74 INCHES.

I think it will definitely become Humberto ...

Nope.
Humberto is already named and just off the coast of Texas. They are calling that one a "special storm" because it formed juts off the coast. Weird.

awh man they gave Humberto's name to that gulf disturbance.

Well non the less, Ingrid it is, looks like it may want to head my way. Going to keep an eye on her.

I hope it just turns away out to sea.

Could this be the first major U.S. northeast storm we've seen in a while?

Or maybe just a fish storm.

I'm not an expert but i guess it depends when/where it begins it's turn north and how sharp the turn.

If it plows through Cuba and into the gulf it's bad news, if it turns just before then it goes to Florida etc...

Too early to tell IMO. The next updates are at 5pm EST and (I think) 11 pm EST.

Here's the historical map of tropical systems near where TD8 is:

So it does look like it'll either hit the Atlantic coast or just go back out to sea to me since it appears it's already turning north.

I wouldn't mind if it hit us in NYC, we've got strong buildings and it'd mix things up a bit!

don't say that dj, what if it becomes a dreaded Cat 5 headed to New York, I think you'd mind just a bit then.

I'm very wary of Ingrid, I think we'll get an east coast storm, just not sure where on the east coast.

It doesn't look like Ingrid will be anything, conditions have become very unfavorable for tropical development in its area.

Ok....lets step back for a minute. I have to wonder, as all of you should, how much worse these Hurricanes will get? Look at Dean. My cruise had to stop in the Gulf so that Dean could go through. The outer bands of the storm tipped our area. The boat rocked like a sea sickness palace. What's next? Katrina was bad because of the area in which it hit. These storms are getting stronger, the waters especially in the Gulf are extremely warm, and it seems like one storm right after the other these past several weeks. What can we predict?

TS Ingrid was downgraded over the weekend to back to TD Ingrid, and while the official forecast doesn't put Ingrid anywhere near me, I have to say I'm surprised by Ingrid's tenacity to hang around in the face of shear and will keep an eye on her till she is north of my latitude.
