The reason I ask this is related to the mounting of 5 or 6 nuclear warheads recently on a B-52 going to Barksdale AFB in Shreveport, LA.

I read recently that only during DEFCON 3 would it be possible to mount nuclear weapons. Is there any truth to this?

Consider the 8 Russian bombers intercepted near British airspace. The war games in the Bay of Bengal right now. Three US aircraft carrier battle groups converging on the Arabian Sea/Persian Gulf area. Coincidence?

I think there is more going on here than meets the eye.

With regard to DEFCON 3, I don't know, but it's all over internet news that Phase III of Bush's plan in the region is coming. He plans the total obliteration of Iran's military, not pinprick strikes, in order to prevent them from gaining a nuclear weapon. I can neither confirm nor deny.

However, here is some reading for anyone interested...

At Defense Readiness Condition (DEFCON) 3 or on order the Transportation Division moves to designated wartime locations and conducts wartime transportation movement and staff operations. Specific Transportation Division tasks include:

  • Conduct intra-theater deployment of forces.

  • Provide for movement services within the theater of operations.

  • Coordinate transportation movements with the ROK Army and Government representative authority.

  • Conduct LOC analysis.

  • Plan transportation support to future operational campaigns.

Within the theater, the 25th Transportation Battalion provides movement control. The battalion’s mission is to provide movement control services and transportation management during Armistice and contingencies to include the common user land transportation (CULT) system for personnel and materiel movements into, within, and out of the ROK in support of the 19th TAACOM, EUSA and USFK. The 25th Transportation Battalion provides movement control support to the 2ID.

We are not at "DEFCON 3." We don't even call it that. "Alert Status" is what the PC freaks make us use now.

The military does use Defense Readiness Condition (DEFCON) levels to indicate status of the US Armed Forces. In the UK, they use BIKINI status levels.

However, I agree that we are unlikely to be at DEFCON 3 currently.

You are correct, dama. The military does still use DEFCON status. However, civilians use Alert Status.

We are currently at DEFCON 4, or Alert Status (ALSTAT) Orange.

On Tuesday, Sep 11, we will go to DEFCON 3 (ALSTAT YELLOW) for 24 hours in memorium of the attacks

We're going to DEFCON 3 on Tuesday? Can you provide a source link to something that verifies this? Cuz if we ARE going to DEFCON 3 "in memorium" as they say, then the military wouldl have the legal authority to do things they normally wouldn't be able to do...

It's a political thing. A show of readiness, at least at the place I'm at.

    Ok, I have to ask...

Where are you at? Are you a political/military insider at some level? What is your affiliation with the US political machine and/or the US Armed Forces?

wow ok, thats odd, never heard of anything like that here, maybe I should call my dad and ask if they might be doing a defcon 'exercise' or somethin on base.

Does anyone know if any Drills or Exercise are planned within the Continental United States tommorow? I think that may be very important if there are.

ill ask my mother if dad said anything this weekend or something. either that or i'll ask him once he gets off work. Seeing how I used to work on base, we'd get emails about exercises in advance. Ill check it out tomorrow. I dont think they'd get a big kick out of me calling at 1 am

Calm yer hormones down, people. It's jut a local exercise restricted to the ship, nothing national. XO decided on a drill, that's all.

lol when you said we, you should have been a tad more specific, it sounded like you were talking about the whole nation there for a while

I appologize, Chiiru. I did not mean to imply a national emergency.

I am currently attached to a US based carrier (no, I won't say which one in public). And no, there are no links. It's just a local thing.

I would assume you mean that you are aboard this particular NAVY vessel...? Are you posting from a terminal on the boat?

(no, I won't say which one in public).

    I can understand that.

Ok, so this is just the local buzz on the ship. Thanks for the privy info. Do you know of anything interesting planned for Tuesday?

Ask me no more questions and I'll tell you no more lies, dama.

And other than GQ on Tuesday, I know of nothing other than a Presidential statement to commemorate the day.
