Police kill man in NYC subway

www.iht.com

Plainclothes police officers shot and killed a man who grabbed another officer and began firing a gun on a New York City subway platform, police said. It was not immediately clear how many shots the officers fired. Officer Marchiondo was shot in the foot, ankle and left side, just under her bullet resistant vest. Police did not immediately know who shot her.

WELL, I was going to rant about how dangerous and trigger happy the police world has become, how you can't even catch a train without being shot at, but upon reading the article and not the headline, I stand corrected. Good on em. It sounds like the commuters on that 'crowded platform' were indeed very lucky that 3 plaincloths police were there.
Just wondering, why did he grab a policewoman in a headlock, and how did he know she was a police officer? Maybe he didn't, and he's just got the worst luck in NYC?

I agree, good on the officers. Theres always a huge debate (certainly here in the UK, and obviously in the US too) about whether armed police make the wrong decisions, but the fact is they have to make split-second decisions which could save their lives and the lives of innocent citizens. Police have a very difficult job and I applaud these officers for doing the right thing. We need police to carry firearms, because there is nothing stopping the criminals carrying them as well.

The three officers had detained Juan Calves, 51, and another suspect after they spotted the two men riding between subway cars on a southbound 4 train going from the New York City borough of the Bronx into Manhattan, police said.

this is why,but this reason alone seems strange to me,although he was a killer,so i guess it's like you said, very unlucky day for him.

What a stupid person! :shk:

He would have been probably just given a ticket and sent on his way, instead now he's dead and the policewoman is in the hospital with gunshot wounds.

What a dumb scumbag!
