Suspected Radioactive packages in Philadelphia "not terrorism, not a threat."

Three packages, all delivered separately to three different locations – two medical office buildings at St. Luke’s Hospital in Fountain Hill, (Lehigh County), Pennsylvania and a warehouse type building containing three businesses in nearby Bethlehem were reportedly contaminated with a foul-smelling chemical that authorities still have not identified. That substance sickened a total of 16 people at three locations. All victims of the oily type substance were treated for respiratory symptoms and ultimately released. The three packages were all delivered by FedEx and each originated at their Hanover Township facility, located about 15 miles from St. Luke’s Hospital during the course of the day, yesterday. That is as much as is being made public by authorities – except that the incident has no nexus to terrorism.

So is it just the Air Force bases that are standing down, right? What kind of defenses does that leave us with for the 14th? It doesn't affect the National Guard, right?

What has me worried is that this doesn't seem to make much sense. These days when the military does things that don't make any sense to me it makes me worried. Is it true that regular fighters don't carry nuclear warheads anyway? It just doesn't seem to be a smart idea to ground all of them at once and then announce to the world that we might be vulnerable that day.

Exercise Valiant Shield wraps up with help from Barksdale


8/24/2007 - BARKSDALE AIR FORCE BASE, La. -- Exercise Valiant Shield 2007, the largest exercise of its kind in the Pacific, wrapped up eight days of flying operations Aug.13.

Valiant Shield demonstrated the B-52's ability to integrate into a large-scale joint environment., explained Lt. Col. Tom Hesterman, 20th Expeditionary Bomb Squadron commander.




BAFB Airmen repeat history, enhance national security

On Aug. 21, almost 70 years later, three B-52s from Barksdale repeated history and advanced air power's global lethality when they intercepted the United States Navy Ship, the 2nd Lt John P. Bobo, 1,000 miles off the eastern seaboard.

Both missions showcased the military's ability to deter, dissuade or destroy maritime threats before they can harm U.S. citizens in the public's eye.

Friday's mission was also a precursor of things to come as air power is further developed for use in the 21st Century and beyond.
