As a gamer, and as someone familiar with the history of said game, I find that I must point out that Egbert... whose famous disappearance prompted the terrible movie "Mazes and Monsters," Starring Tom Hanks (Terrible in that it was based off of paranoia and innaccuracy), did not actually die from his obsession with the game. He merely disappeared for several weeks and was presumed dead for just such reasons.
The media, as well as the Christian activists who wanted to demonize the game themselves, ignored the minor details that either did not make the story newsworthy or did not jive with their paranoid hatred of Gamer Geeks as demon worshipping hoodlums out to corrupt children into demon worship.
So, to quote Egbert as one of the only D&D related deaths is laughable, as he didn't die NOR commit suicide.
And that's the rest of the story.
