Bush shows concern over China's military

www.cnn.com

U.S. President George W. Bush said in an interview broadcast Friday that he would be concerned about China's military if the country ever turned hostile.

He said it was important for the United States to be an "active presence in Asia to make sure that old tensions don't flare up."

I know China is a strong power, but would he actually be worried about their military? Maybe he is enticing them so that the two countries really DO become hostile..

"My view of China is that they're internally focused to the extent that they want economic growth and vitality, they're externally focused in order to get the raw materials they need. But if they ever turn hostile, I would be concerned about the military," Bush said.

The Chinese military is much stronger and much better equipped than most people know. It's like the Japanese before WWII. Everyone sees them as a military that copies all their equipment and that we'd wipe off the map in no time, but they're actually a rather powerful military in their own right, and they would put up a hell of a fight if we ever went to war with them.

Well if he don't want to turn China hostile, he should back off from attacking Iran. But I know he don't care, and his masters, want WW3 to happen if they can have it so they can reduce the population. Giving US nuclear secrets to China in the 90s was a part of this plan, thanks Clinton.

China is not a threat to the globalists, it's the model for the future society. Police state, one child policy, war, genocide, slave labor camps...

The man has been our President for the better part of a decade and I still cannot tell if these sorts of statements are calculated messages or retarded blunders.

I guess if is intentionally trying to make the world guess if he "thought that one through" that could be a sign of his intelligence.

Either way it isn’t that big a deal. It was just bold enough to be news worthy but not enough to raise many eyebrows.

The Chinese are definetly preparing for something. Bush was probably sending them a message that "We know what your doing". He's also probably trying to get the idea into the mainstream public before the next election, fearing he might lose and Clinton win. In that case, Clinton will probably turn a blind eye to the Chinese military build up as her husband did.

I think it's remarkable that a man responsible for the most advanced and "butting-in" military makes such a stantement.
Constantly he assumes that the American government is the ones most fit to see the world through troubled times...

From a European point of view I feel like he is the one responsible for most of the controverses going on, not the one that should make em go away.

Please please fast forward 1½ year from now and let's get this man out of office so you guys in the general public can be redeemed a little.

Yea well the view and ideals of the American Government are not really the same as the people in our country. Kind of mean to say but our government caters to the ignorants because they are easy to influence and control..The reason wy our education could actually be he best in the world but isn't. THey teach us what they want us to know and use. In order to succed in life for the most part you need to go to a university. In order to get in to the university, you need to study and learn what " they" want you to know. SO yea kind of off topic but yea, I do understand that the world views the US as evil , but it's not the people so much as the people who run the people.

I really feel pity for the American people for putting up with a dictator like Bush. *sigh*

If it wasn't for his adminstration, I'm sure anti-Americanism wasn't so widespread and growing with the minute...

indeed let's hope he doesn't make the world an even more dangerous place than it is already is in the coming 1,5 years...

Somehow I don't think that all the problems in the world are going to magically disappear once Bush goes. Most of these problems are 10's, hundreds if not thousands of years old. I do dread the day when the US becomes isolationist and leaves all the global policing to Russia and China.

China's military in numbers alone is something to notice. Their ever-growing relationship with Russia and Russia's military assets makes the two a substantial power, I think, beyond combined NATO forces.

Something for you guys to remember always on the back of your minds, the US would never be defeated by weapons and the end of the day you are going to get is MAD, to whatever country, don't you think that right now at this very moment we have a more than a couple ICBM's pointed at Beijing, Moscow and such others.

Is cold war like tactics from the moment that 2 countries got the A bomb.

War with China? Yes possibly.

Chinese troops marching down in NY streets? I don't think so.

That's just the reality of the times we leave in.

I find it a little silly that the US, whose military expenditures are roughly equal to the rest of the countries on the planet combined, whose military is entirely geared towards overseas "power projection" with little attention to actual defense, is worried about anyone else's "military buildup"

It's just plain bizarre...
