Hey Caustic, the no doubt article from Newsday.com that I posted earlier has a date of September 23, 2001. The first time I heard of Bernard being used as an example of how bad Hani was, was in one of the loose change movies. I don't know the release dates of any of them.

You've seen the NTSB animation. Did it look like anything spectacular to you? With 600 hours, apparently, Hani was good enough to hit the Pentagon, but not good enough to hit it on the way into town and avoid hitting light poles. Remember also, he had 74.5 hours of IFR time. I would think that it is safe to assume that he knew how to tune in to the VOR. That would have led him directly to Reagan National.

Hmmm... Well I'm no expert, but my best guess for the loop rather than a straigh long-distance dive is that the menaeuver was complex enough the pilot decided to split it in two - first establish visual, to bring up the maps you've studied, then do the arc you planned and dive, re-establsish Pentagon visual and dive again straight until the end, some final adjustments...

I just noticed how weird it is that we're talking techniques of suicide piloting against national landmarks.

Anyway, if it was remote, I had a spooky brainstorm once that the loop was reflective of a last-minute plan change - Cheney and Rummy did a last-minute deal and the plane headed to the White House dropped into its loop over Arlingtonto lose altitude without position, and hit the Pentagon instead. Or some more subtle psy-op variation thereof, from one plotter to the next - you know I saved your ass. All possible targets are in the longitude zone 77 degrees west. It was Flight 77. Spooky!
