The renderings of the SR-72 are radically different. That is a Blackswift or an offshoot of it.

Since no one has seen an SR-72 and the renderings we've seen are likely not actual plan views of the bird there is no way to know. Yes, likely hollywood fanciful ideas of what it might look like.

Actually, many times the official renderings turn out to be really close to reality. All indications are that the B-21 is almost dead on, with a few minor changes in areas they don't really want out there yet.

I have a picture buried somewhere taken at Skunk Works through the open door of their hangar that shows something with a fairly significant curve that extends over the privacy curtain. If you look at the SR-72 renderings that curve appears to match up with them.

the real question i have about the B-21 renderings and even that model they showed off is that there looks like no exhaust and the inlets are clearly not made for that aircraft.

do you think the raider will have exhausts like the F-23 or B-2 or something more like the F-117.

the new exhausts(compared to the F117) with the thermal tiles and the other neat things they can do to reduse thermals rather than just slits for the exhaust for lack of a better description.

the inlets shown in the renderings dont look right or big enough so that will be interesting.

are you going to post the peep show pic?

with China going at the pace they seem to be and if what they claim is true i think the US is going to have to show off some of the family jewels, if nothing more than to show the US citizens that our military still is the best in the world and will be for along time. i think letting some older platforms to come out of the shadows would be enough regardless if they are not the bleeding edge or not we both know the US has some pretty nice things they could roll out.

part of deterrence is the will of the people in the homeland to back our leaders and it makes it easier for people to back up leaders when they know what kind of hell we could bring to our enemies regardless of what they have or claim to have. Im not saying show the world what the US's bleeding edge tech is but we dont need to show that.

There's not a lot you can see. Even with tweaking it you can just make out a curved hump.

The Raider left off details, as most do. The inlet is probably due to them running into a few issues designing it. The exhaust is going to be a closely held secret, similar to how the B-2 is. It's most likely going to be similar to the YF-23 at a guess.

It would be so tantalizing looking at the hanger and the very small bit you can see, my imagination would be running.

it will be cool to see the raider but its nothing radical on the outside, we have seen the planform so many times as form follows function and all that.

i would love to see a cross section of the wings and manufacturing details that alone im sure would be crazy let alone the electrical stuff.

it would be cool if it could change color to use that effect fighters used in WWII with lights.

Three or four of us went over that picture repeatedly. We didn't even notice the hump until we had looked at it several times. It barely came up over the privacy curtain.

I know this thread started 12 years ago!! But felt compelled to add what I saw recently in 2019 in the UK. a few months ago around 10:30 to 11pm I heard an overflight and when looked up saw an aircraft resembling theBlackswift flanked by two F-15's. I've been following aircraft since the 1980's and know an F-15 noise when I hear them. The centre aircraft was approx 50% larger than the 2 F-15's. What caught my eye was the fact that the centre jet had square or slightly rectangular exhausts and very wide apart. I know some on here have much better knowledge than me as to what's flying now and where but bothing else I can find comes close in explaining what I saw. I live north of Cambridge and the jets were heading west to east towards Mildenhall and Lakenheath, I'm not for one minute suggesting that whatever this was was going to land at either base but thought I'd share in case someone can put two and two together and help explain somethimng else...

Just watched the new Top Gun trailer, what's that delta wing plane we see at the end ... I wonder how much reality is behind the fiction we will see in the movie

It's a CGI Blackswift style design.

The TOP Gun movie fastmover look a lot like the Black Watcher sighting, and the drawing of Black Watcher look a lot like the 2008 Blackswift..

Very much interested in this project
Strange rumors when I was back on the ranch back in the late 80s/early 90s
Not my project though
Almost look like courtroom sketches not concept art
Esp. first four
Be interesting to do geographic matches on landmarks
Looks familiar but desert is big

Active flow control by a novel combinational active thermal protection for hypersonic vehicles

Authors:

Huang et al

Abstract:

This paper studies the mechanism of combinational active thermal protection system (CA-TPS) of the hypersonic vehicles by numerical method. Unlike the traditional configuration, the nozzle is fixed on the spike, and the directions of lateral jet and hypersonic free stream are perpendicular to each other. The CA-TPS has significantly weaker reattachment shock wave than traditional spiked blunt body. Furthermore, the low temperature gas ejected from the nozzle flows downstream to reduce the aeroheating directly. For the blunt body, the peak and total heat fluxes of CA-TPS are 37.34% and 23.97% lower than that of traditional spiked blunt body, respectively. In addition, this paper conducts the analysis of influencing factors of the CA-TPS. As the total-pressure-ratio of nozzle and the length of spike increase, the reattachment shock wave intensity gradually weakens, and more low temperature gas can be ejected to increase the thermal protection efficiency of the CA-TPS. As the nozzle moves downstream, the reattachment shock wave intensity gradually increases, thus reducing the thermal protection efficiency. The effects of the above influencing factors on the flow field and change rate of thermal protection efficiency of CA-TPS are also studied in this paper.

yeah but you could do the same thing with enough power an a RF transmitter

and all the weight that you could use for payload in this new HPS would be taken up with cryogenics
