the function of moving a single pilot to advanced fight.
Broad subject, BROAD answer.
Why have there been no applications in the white, of transatmospheric capability, Is it COMMERCIAL security(Evil) Or NATIONAL security (Necessary)

A bunch of valid temperature data and maybe some basic materials science?

Don't knock the space shuttle though, it WAS basically a hypersonic boost-glide vehicle the size of a 727, that still is pretty cool, right?

Of course it was. It was incredibly advanced for the time. But the point is that absolutely nothing from the shuttle applies to a sustained, air breathing system.

There have been no applications based off the X-15, because there are no possible applications from the X-15, other than a rocket based system. And there are zero potential commercial systems that would be profitable.

Believe it or not, not everything moves on to other applications. I know it's hard to believe, but some programs have little far reaching benefits and are used to test very specific applications.

I suppose one would need to know who EXACTLY retains legal ownership of NSAP vehicles first.

And the X-15 would do nothing for a space plane. It was incapable of going into orbit. They gave the pilot astronaut wings, but they only went to 50 miles. That's still well below the Karman Line, that delineates space from the atmosphere. Technically they were still in the Mesosphere.

I didn't think there were. as surely as I believe WE ALREADY have space capabilities in tactical combat spacecraft.
I just got tired of telling people WE have already performed manned hypersonic flight,so we have proprietary data beyond other countries.

Except, as I pointed out, there is almost nothing from the shuttle or X-15 that would transition to an air breathing sustained jet engine. Yes, we have performed manned hypersonic flights, but that doesn't mean that it transitions to other programs.

I wanted to add this article here.

www.thedrive.com...

Just for completeness.

Too bad He Who Shall Not Be Named is no longer around. He could of provided some sighting tips.

I have an official USAF poster of a space plane that never even made it to wind tunnel testing. The poster shows it in orbit.

Sure ,but this time we heard and see pictures about SR-72 everywhere and since a lot of years now

Because you don't NEED to wind test a spacecraft! Duh!

We did back then too. That was going to be the future and they were all about pictures and posters of it.

Were quibbling here but at the time the US military recognized the 50 mile limit for space. But two flights of the X-15 recorded altitudes well over the Karman line of 62.1 miles

They did have an orbital prototype that would have been launched from an Atlas I think but was shelved.

Ummmmm you do if you want to recover it intact. Space Shuttle, X-37B etc all spent time in the wind tunnel.

As the U.S. steps up research and development for hypersonic weapons, DARPA has awarded Aerojet Rocketdyne a contract to demonstrate a turbine-based combined cycle (TBCC) engine that could power a reusable high-speed aircraft from takeoff to beyond Mach 5.

The award comes amid reports that Lockheed Martin’s Skunk Works is making progress toward flying an F-22-sized, TBCC-powered flight research vehicle by 2020 as a precursor to the larger SR-72 high-speed aircraft proposed for the late 2020s.Aerojet Rocketdyne To Demo Combined-Cycle Hypersonic Engine

Interesting to say the least.
