My question here is simple..... Why does religion make a difference in society ???
So what if i don't believe in your god?
Or that i don't believe in anything at all? Or even If I am a satanist if i am not hurting anybody than whats the big deal

This is very annoying because some people hate eachother because they have diferent beliefs that's just dumb to judge a person by their beliefs. for example: I could be the biggest Muslim in the world and u could be a christian who goes to church every sunday, prays, etc
But that doesnt mean your going to heaven.
I think it all depends on how good a person you are.

Please tell me what you guys think of this thread

It matters because there is an eternity to live in after this brief time on earth.

You realize that right now there is a religion that is significantly manifesting itself and, thinks that it is a big deal that you don't believe in their "god'.
Such a big deal that it offends them to the point of your death as the answer to your rejection of their "god'.

So if a person's fate is determined by good works, how many does it take? 22, 69, 1034, 12,907, 134,986? People need to know the answer because it would be terrible if it takes 13,213 but you only had 13,212 and then you got cancer and died before you did that one that put you over the top. It also wouldn't really be fair if someone in NYC with 3.4 million dollars was able to get their quota of good works performed because they had the money and time while someone in the slums of Vietnam missed out because they lacked the resources to accomplish this or someone else who got killed when a drunk driver ended their life prematurely also missed out.

Plus how many good works cancel out a lie?

How many cancel out hitting your spouse?

How many cancel out, calling someone on the playground a name when you were 5?

Can you even cancel out a wrong?

Yikes, it's more complicated than I thought.

Now comes the beauty of the God of the Bible's plan. We're all unable to do enough good works to earn eternal life. And you can't even cancel out a bad work(sin). Plus bad ones bring consequences and death. So He decided to do all that was required for us to make it to eternity with Him.

He decided to leave heaven and come down to earth and live as a human. He decided that the death you faced, would mean that you never would get to see all He has planned for eternity. He decided that that the guilt of you having your sin to think about for all of eternity was too terrible for you to face.

So He decided that he would propose a trade with you. Here's the trade, you give him all the bad things you have done in your entire lifetime(and if you want to get rid of the bad things then you realize they are bad) and He will give you complete 100% forgiveness, in other words a pardon.

He would take each sin one upon Himself and feel the guilt of each one as if he had actually done it. Then because sin has to be judged, He would allow Himself to face the wrath of His own law. The law says the soul that sins, must die. So the Bible tells us that Jesus became sin for us. You need to think about that for a moment. The God of the Universe, who is 100% perfect, allowed Himself to be nailed to a tree that He made. Then He became sin. When God the Father saw Him on the cross He saw sin and judged it.

So by faith(which is believing) you can have this trade take place. Anybody who wants to can take advantage of it.

The guy with 3.2 billion in the bank can choose to accept the trade and it doesn't cost Him a penny for it.

The mom with 6 kids in the slums of Bolivia and 2 cents to her name, doesn't cost her anything either. She can trade away.

As a matter of fact
John 1:12 [12] But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons and daughters of God, even to them that believe on his name:

You know how many "as many" is? It's as many as want to! No limit

But I don't know how this answers my question. So if I don't believe In god and that he is the creator of everything and that he died for my sins my soul shall be cast into the lake of fire?

It's not for anyone to judge, but when the time comes that you lay down in the grave, then will the truth of all things be unfurled, whether you believe or not, or did good, or not.
Everything will be revealed. I promise.

If you don't believe this, which I'm assuming you don't, then you are affecting yourself and others, which would be society.

No offence but I would rather trust God's promises.

John 3:[14] And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:
[15] That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
[16] For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
[17] For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
[18] He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

I get your point, here ... 'least I think so.

What if we are, all that we are, only for the time, that we are here.

What then?

Personally I think that that possibility frightens us to our core ... humanity, that is. How can there Not be something more? How can there be no other purpose than to do one's best to further the cause of humanity while we are here? How can it be so? There has to be. There simply has to.

So, tomorrow, when the sun rises, we will kneel in prayer to that which rises and falls each day. We will kneel in prayer to that which gives us life. We will kneel in prayer to that which gives us day and to that which gives us night. We will kneel in prayer to that which makes our crops grow. We will kneel in fright to that which scorches our lands. We will kneel in prayer to that which ... happens to be.

It's a Very long story, but I think it started something like that ... a need for a purpose, if you will.

difference = division = strife = war = suffering

So what if i don't believe in your god?

Well, if i were not who i am, as far as that which i stand for....i would probably have to kill you or succumb to your murder of me...

but i believe that you are the same as me, inside - and want the same things (to be heard, loved, and understood/accepted) and regardless of where we 'came from' - we came from the SAME place!

so if you don't believe the same as i - well - so be it.

IT is what it IS.

Or that i don't believe in anything at all?

If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice! (Rush)

Or even If I am a satanist if i am not hurting anybody than whats the big deal

Call him Satan or call him God...there is only ONE and to many it all depends on whether one unconsciously believes God is mad (and so is Satan and a source of fear) or is forgiving and easy-going (therefore is LOVE and a sanctuary and haven).

This is very annoying because some people hate eachother because they have diferent beliefs that's just dumb to judge a person by their beliefs.

You must think in terms of 'root cause analysis' concerning this aspect of human nature. It is basically insecurity (mild) ranging to fear (severe)....and it is a genital condition we are all born with - known more commonly as 'mortality' or 'the fear of death.'

We all die...we all live...over and over! If we could just remember this instead of burying ourselves in fear and blindness...well, then, what a wonderful world it would be!

for example: I could be the biggest Muslim in the world

Do you mean as far as physical size? Like Muhammed Ali?
jk

and u could be a christian who goes to church every sunday, prays, etc

You're leaving out the 'third stooge' - which is the Jew! It is a tripled sibling rivalry, don't forget!

But that doesn't mean your going to heaven.

Or that heaven is coming to you!

I think it all depends on how good a person you are.

But what is 'good?'
Who defines 'good?'

THAT, my friend, is where the source of confusion lies!

There is no good or bad - only truth or falsehood!
And the falsehood is mainly unintentional and unconscious - a defense mechanism that we are also born with - self-deception in order to get through the swamps to the meadow on the other side - as long as we can make ourselves believe it is NOT a swamp...we can wade through it and forget about the alligators...and when we get to the other side our minds then allow us to acknowledge that it IS a swamp...and we are ALL the alligators as well as the alligator's lunch!

Please tell me what you guys think of this thread

I think anything you think of and share with others, in order to improve our understanding and our cooperation, is TRUTH!

thank you!

and God bless you and yours!

(whatever that might mean to you~! positive vibrations, dude!)

dbrandt, this one's for you.

-When you understand why you don't believe in MY God, then you'll understand why I don't believe in yours

What does this quote mean to you? Think about it...

I think some people feel the need to belong to something they see as bigger than themselves. It can be very depressing to some people to think that once we die, that's it. No heaven, no angels, no eternal life. Nothing. You're alive one minute, and cease to exist the next. (I don't believe in an afterlife and even I'm getting depressed just typing that!
) By belonging to something bigger than ourselves, it makes some feel that what they do in their lifetime makes a difference and matters.

In a way, I see religion as a good thing because it gives people hope and a reason to live morally. On the other hand, religion plays a big part in the mindless arguing that goes on between people who believe differently. Instead of just letting each other believe what we want, some people develop a Jesus-complex and think they have to save the souls of everyone they know, or meet for that matter, who doesn't believe what they do. Thus the 15 people I get knocking on my door every year trying to tell me why I should come to their church and why what they believe is right. If people could just get it through their heads that it's ok for us all to not believe in exactly the same thing I think this world would be a much better place.

Anyway, to answer your question, religion makes a difference in society because we fear/hate things we don't understand. People who follow religion A don't understand religion B, and since it's different from religion A that must mean it's evil so instead of trying to understand why someone else believes in religion B let's just tell them they're going to hell and shoot them if we get the chance. :shk:

What religion you believe should not matter, as long as it leads you down
the right path. I believe in God, I have nothing against Atheists, Muslims, Jews,
Buddhist or any other religion. As long as you are not trying to steer me away
from God we will get along.
