OK, I am going to try and explain this as best I can with my VERY limited knowledge of such things...

I am trying to hook up my stereo...

I have a Big Box with the radio, volume control and all the switches on it.

I have a very thin box called "Audio Source" that looks to me like a graphic equalizer.

A CD player and I am hooking the TV up through this as well...

I have the CD player and radio working just fine.. Here are my questions....

I can not get the TV, "audio out" to work by hooking it into the "Audio In" RCA plugs at the back of the BIG BOX... Nothing happens

That means that my DVD player will not play through my stereo speakers...

I also have no idea how to hook the "Audio Source" into the BIG BOX... Does the CD and TV and DVD Players go to the BIG BOX first? Or to the "Audio Source" first then into the BIG BOX???

As you can see, I am completely confused...

If it would help. I can post some pictures tomorrow of the back and front of the system....

HELP!!!!

I think you 'll get help easier if you post those pictures. I am one of those people that need a visual to be able to help with these things.

Perhaps take a poic of the back or the area with the plugs (RCA) on each piece of equipment and post them and we can assist that way.

Well good luck with that. I have a 13 year old son that's a savant when it comes to stuff like that. If we lived closer, I'd send him over.

But you'd probably have to feed him. Cheaper to hire an engineer. The kid eats like a raccoon in a dumpster. Only not as discriminating.

Hey Semp.

Sometimes the audio out will only function if you change the "audio setup" on the TV..

You may have to turn off the TV speakers, in the TV's audio menu.
usually it's something like "audio = external/internal"
It varies from model to model. But you may find your answer in the TV's setup menu.

That's what I thought too Space...

But the only options the "Menu" on my TV gives me is "Stereo - Mono - SAP" and then there is a selection for "Movie Sound - Sports Sound - News Sound"

Very frustrating....

Semperfortis,

You have two audio outs [red and white] plus a video out[yellow] on the back of your dvd player. Take the other end of the two audio outs [red and white] and plug them into either the AUX, CD, or DVD inputs [you should have one if not all three of these] on the back of your receiver [big box]. Leave the video out [yellow] going to the video in on the back of your TV.

Assuming you have a remote for the receiver, just change the "source" to AUX, CD or DVD, whichever it was that you plugged the audios into on the back.

If that doesn't work or you have further questions, post back.

That worked perfectly and I am now listening to my TV through my stereo in the living room....

I have everything run through my PC in the Den and that was pretty easy. This was crazy though and I almost said "NO TV IN HERE"

But you got me up and running....

Thank you again

One of the great things about this site that I have experienced is this sense of family.

At least that is what I call it when one member has a problem, even as small as being an audio idiot like me, and here all you fellow family members are ready, willing and able to help.

Thank you all for coming to help me and most of all thanks for being my surrogate family.

If I can ever help any of you, just ask...
