Let me start by saying I apologize if this is in the wrong place. I just read this a little bit ago and found it rather intriguing..

Granted new power to spy inside the U.S., the Bush administration may be doing more than eavesdropping on phone calls -- it could be watching suspects' every move.

Read about it here..America under surveillance

While this doesn't really stand out as a point of concern, it does make me wonder what else this agency is doing. Spying on its citizens is obviously something that the US government has no problem with, but should we be concerned that they're using spy planes for something like this?

It's definitely a point of concern for me and it started when Congress passed the Patriot Act. Big Brother can use terrorism or Katrina as an excuse to spy domestically. However, I don't see how this particular incident is not just surveillance of a huge tropical storm.

Do you have any other source besides salon.com?

Anyway, here's something of interest for you.

Congress yields to pass Bush Spying bill.

WASHINGTON--The Congress yielded to President Bush on Saturday and approved legislation to temporarily expand the government's power to conduct electronic surveillance without a court order in tracking foreign suspects.

Unfortunately no, I have no other source. In addition to perusing ATS all night at work, I am also a dedicated digger as well, and thats where I found the link to this story.

And I guess I should clarify..

I meant that this particular incident, in which they were observing the storm, is what causes me no concern. What does concern me is exactly what you've stated, the President/Government manipulating reality in order to further their own agenda.

It's very disconcerting to say the least.

Just wanted to add thanks for providing that link, I had not seen that story, and it's definitely something people should sit up and take notice of...
