We are building something a little different than normal. It is a 2 story structure that is about 75'x65'. The bottom half of the building is filled block that has #6 rebar on 8" centers throughout (that means it is pretty damn sturdy). The bottom level is split pretty much in half, with one side having a few rooms that are pretty typical for office construction. There is another filled wall that bisects the floor.

The other side of the wall will be left with a compacted earth floor graded to drain towards a sump box, with an earth berm sloping up the walls at a 1:1 slope to a height of 8'. The ceiling is only 9' up. There is one big entrance into this room from the "office" area.

The second floor is split by a large chase, and is just 2 big rooms.

Now the strangest part is that the building was deliberately laid out to be aligned to north.

Before anyone asks, there will be no pictures of the building. Cameras are forbidden, and all sites employ "escorts" who openly watch what we do. I will not even try it.

Anyone care to venture a guess as to what the building could be used for?

I would like to use it for a Super Bowl party this coming January, will it be finished by then? Think about it, we could bring in all the chips and beer we want and just load up the dirt side of the first floor with coolers, etc. and set up a massive projection TV and several sofas in the other half. If our team is losing, we can just throw our mugs and whatnot at the walls since they are so strong, and anyone who complains about me using the tivo to replay all the good commercials can be taken up to the second floor and pushed out a window.

There, that is the perfect use for such a building, as best as I can tell, so that's probably how it's going to be used.

Where is the building located at? Can you google map/earth the coordinates?

We are building it in SE VA, Cmp Peary, in the Williamsburg area. Google Earth is notoriously not updated for this place, so I seriously doubt that you would be able to see anything.

It could be a number of things...

My guess is, it's just a new building on the base, nothing secret about, no conspiracy etc.

My question to you is, if it's supposed to be secret, so secret in fact that no cameras are allowed, why are you posting about it on a public board?

Also, are there going to be any elevators in this building, if so, do you know who the company is that will be installing them?

I decided to post about it mostly to see what the folks here think about it. We have kicked around some ideas of what we think it may be used for, but really have not the first idea. I have been in the construction business for almost 20 years now, and apart from some amusement park stuff, have not seen anything like this building. And after reading many of the things posted here, this is pretty far from the most bizarre or outlandish thing on ATS.

I don't think there is any conspiracy involved with it. It's just mighty strange.

No, there are no elevators.

Interesting...

If it's a 2 story building, I think that because of ADA requirements, it must have an elevator to reach the 2nd floor. Unless because it's on a military base?

I was simply going to check to see if my company was installing the elevators and see if I could do some snooping around.

"Filled block"??!!. Your adorable, and very naïve to the trade lingo of construction it's called grouting or grouted block.

In my opinion I think that you're building a military engineered building for offices or archiving
