A planet outside our solar system with a year roughly equal to Earth's has been discovered around a dying, red giant star.

the article compares the dying red dwarf star to what will eventually happen to our sun and how the Earth will be vaporized. does this mean that there could have been planets already engulfed by that star due to expansion and is there anyway we could tell if they existed?
