Report: Astronauts Flew Drunk on at Least Two Occasions. OK. Astro's loaded 12 hours before lift-off. Source Aviation Week article. Is anyone surprised? Comments? Reactions?

Very understandable. I would want several stiff drinks before strapping my ass to a few thousand ponds of controlled detonation.

It took a half bottle of Wild Turkey to get me on my first, and last, bull ride. And I didn't feel too bad about not lasting eight seconds.

Shenanigans like this and shuttle disasters cause me to wonder if letting the Government always handle space travel is always a good thing. We need more privatization!

Considering that flight surgeons and other astronauts warned they were so drunk they posed a flight-safety risk... someone would have had to "clear" such an Astronaut. Very, very embarassing and messy.

The Aviation Week server is "SWAMPED" large... a Forbes link here. NASA has declined comment on the obvious disregard of mission rules regarding flight safety. Hmmm. What else might Astros be "up to"?

BTW: The GAO report is out! NASA "loses" on average $9.4 Million per annum in office equipment $94Million in the last decade. The GAO PDF.

That adds a whole new perspective to the term 'moon shot'.

"Hang on Houston, Armstrong had to de-pressurize so he could call Eaaaarth."

Imagine playing quarters in zero gravity. Is that how they decided which unlucky bastard was nominated to do the space walks?

NASA seems to be in "spin-manage" mode... when one searches at NASA for all the alcohol and safety related HTML docs... they are "bye-bye", this "clean up" occurred in the last 20 minutes. Hmmm.

Good God, who could blame them? I have to get tanked just to get on a plane, I couldn't imagine being strapped into those outdated bombs. And c'mon....how many of the old school "right stuff" guys flew jacked up from the night before? It was kinda par for the course back then, along with smoking. I just didn't think it still went on with the jackbooted P.C. police afoot these days.
