British Rail filed this patent in 1973 for a flying saucer with the simple title of "SPACE VEHICLE"...

v3.espacenet.com...

PATENT NUMBER: GB1310990
PUBLICATION DATE: 1973-03-21
INVENTOR:
APPLICANT: BRITISH RAILWAYS BOARD

ABSTRACT: A space vehicle includes a platform under which is provided a thermonuclear fusion zone to which liquid fuel is supplied under pressure to be ignited by beams from lasers. The platform mounts electromagnets, possibly superconducting magnets, to deflect charged particles produced by the fusion reaction; some particles are deflected so as to be received on insulated electrodes for generation of electric power. Excess thermal energy produced in the reaction is removed by cooling tubes to a radiating surface. The lasers may be energized by a homopolar generator. The latter may also be used as a reference for stabilizing the vehicle by varying the electrostatic voltages on sections of the electrodes to apply a correcting couple to the vehicle. By controlling voltages on sections and also the fields from magnets, the thrust on the vehicle can be directed to control the attitude and direction of the craft. A passenger cabin is included.

I want one.

Did somebody know something we didn’t or…?

[bump]

Wow, this thread dropped off the charts faster than Paris Hilton’s new CD.

Must be old news. I thought for sure somebody would use this as evidence of a conspiracy that the British government has been secretly back engineering ET technology.

I vaguly remember this patent being brought up ages ago - not sure if it had a thread of its own or was brought into another.

Would be cool to know exactly how many of this sort of thing is held in patent offices - might be a few ideas that were not possable / feesable then but could be looked at again.

Very strange! Why would British Rail be doing this kind of thing? Unless it was not strictly going to be for their use

I don't think British Rail even took MagLev ideas into any serious consideration, and their Advanced Passenger Train failed around that time... if they couldn't get their trains to work... why anything else?

That said, they certainly had some idea as to "future" tech at the time. Of course it all depends on who you work for as far as what your view of the cutting-edge is... *cough* black world/budget *cough*

Now that's what I'm talking about... spoken like a true conspiracy theorist.

Even if it just seemed like a good idea at the time, why bother knowing full well it would expire without a working prototype?

Nah, I’m not buying it… somebody knew something.

P.S. Cool avatar.

It's just one of Hundreds (?) of such patents!

Most are from the U.S. not Britan, BTW.

Ah, maybe that’s why we don't have any ARVs... all these folks who already patented the idea are probably holding out for way more bucks then it’s worth to the USG.

How, pray tell, do you know what 'we' don't have?

Well, for starters, I know an alien spaceship didn't crash in Roswell.

I'm sorry to have to be the one to 'call you out', but you don't know what happened at Roswell at all!

You originally came into this discussion a year ago quoting Roswellfiles.com !!!

I've been more than patient pointing out major inconsistencies with the
Air Force 'explanation' vs the actual historical primary source material.

You can't even claim to be disinterested, as you have yourself attempted to introduce a 'primary source' that you've refused to disclose! And of course no one but you can determine its validity!!!

LS, my primary source has never been a “secret” and you can’t tell me you haven’t read my posts on Reality Uncovered and Bad Astronomy discussing it.

If I seem “disinterested” it is because I have found sufficient proof for myself and since I’m not here to sell anyone anything, I feel no obligation to try and convince anyone else of the “truth”… it’s up to you to decide what you want to believe.

Quoting you, "The following was written in February of last year by an associate of mine who wishes to remain unattributed…".

I didn't say you seem to be 'disinterested', I said you can't claim to be 'disinterested'. As in a 'disinterested party'.

It's your friend and "associate" that wrote this 'source' material.

Ah, I see why you’re confused. My associate is not the “primary” source. The primary sources (more than one) are identified in the “source” material. The reason I used what my associate wrote (with his permission) is because he heard it first hand and I think it’s written better than anything I could write. I trust my source but I can certainly understand why some people might not trust either one of us so if it’s that important to you I suggest you either try to follow up on it on your own (like I did and is documented on RU) or wait until Dr. Crary’s memoirs are published like the rest of us.

Um... Don't you remember that I was following up on this with you 13 months ago when you first posted it here on ATS, page 9 on your thread "Roswell Proof: Where is it?"?

Sorry to barge into this pissing match, but uh...we have evidence that UFOs crashed at Roswell.

..That's all, carry on.
