It's all in the lyrics people, Mr. Tambourine Man was an EBE!

....Take me on a trip upon your magic swirlin' ship,
My senses have been stripped, my hands can't feel to grip,
My toes too numb to step, wait only for my boot heels
To be wanderin'.
I'm ready to go anywhere, I'm ready for to fade
Into my own parade, cast your dancing spell my way,
I promise to go under it.......

Sounds like an alien abduction to me. Is it such a reach?

Peace

There's more than a few who would agree that BD went on one to many trips, and got his head wrapped around the wrong way.

So is "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds" in the same vain?

I think it's very possible that he was given his musical talent by aliens in order to reach out to humanity. Dude could play three instruments at once.

Peace

No, probably not an abductee imho.

But I have, in fact, heard that Bob Dylan wrote every popular song, EVER.

Space cakes anyone?

I've heard when people go on Acid Trips, their mind actually sometimes does enter another dimension. Maybe some people actually did see somethng that was real and not made up by their minds.

Do you guys know about the famous '___' Gnomes (elves) that many people saw when they took the drug?!?

A song's concept doesn't have to come from a personal experience. I've written plenty of songs about conspiracy theories and the likes (in a humorous fashion) but I've never experienced one personally. In fact, there's a whole concept album I'm working on which is based on alternative topics. It's simply an inspiration you get tagged with and go a long with it.

Then there's the trips you get while doing hallucinogens. Shrooms, '___', Acid, which Bob Dylan did frequently. That was also part of the inspiration.

I think maybe the ship was his mind and the trip was the '___'...My 2 cents

I completely agree. I do think he was given a the gift of being an amazing songwriter, though. I guess he might say it was a gift from God or aliens, take your pick.
I think he is living proof that hallucinogens don't kill your brain. He is a smart guy, though he talks all funny. Hey, maybe, he is an alien!

"Skeet shooting." That's such a classic video, an instant classic.

I would love to try '___', sometime it is suppose to be an amazing experience. I think already do sometimes when I sleep, because I talk to people in my sleep. Hey maybe, I talk to people in other dimensions. Cool, but I already knew that. I hope the cops don't arrest me.

I think if you meditate enough and no the right techniques you can activate your pineal gland to produce '___'. I meditate before my dreams that is why I say that.

Probably a multi colored VW beetle, and acid.

Wierd, the First time I tried Acid, I saw a Gnome. He was wearing a fur coat, and said that he was a cold gnome.

And from umm err experience LOTS of it...I never saw little creatures..As a matter of fact '___' visuals were light compared to say mushrooms. Now tracers and time and slowing down is very much true with '___'. I remember watching a digital watch and 10 seconds took 2 minutes to go by. I did have a hell of a chat with a jar of peanut butter once on sunshine acid.
Funny side note .....I ate probably 6 caps and stems one night and thought I was a alien. When I looked at my hands my fingers were about 10 inches long and my face was a bug eyed alien face...that was scary as hell but I locked myself into a motel room and hid under the covers until it went away.

Never took '___', but from what I heard it's tame compared to shrooms. I took way to many shrooms once in college. Quite an experience. My roommate was playing chess on the black and white checkered kitchen floor. I was laying in a neighboring girl's bed and just watching the fishbowl that her walls became. I even got her to see it, too. Things just kept melting whenever I looked at them, as well. Quite a funny, snowy night. I feel way to deal with hallucinations is to never fear them and never take action based on them. You can never go wrong.

Paranoia disclaimer: I do not condone or promote the use of illegal substances.

Its not common while on Lysergic acid to travel to other dimentions (though to be perfectly frank, i have had an OOBE party because of it, and party because of the hot Cuban sun), '___' on the other hand, is a different story. The molecule, i believe, holds the key to human concious acention, and may very well be imparative for the masses to consume at one point in the not to distant future. Unfortunatly this teacher often shows you your own fears, of which, many are not ready to face.

Ready or not, we may come to a point where we have no other choice.

On to the topic: Im sure Bob saw many things, experianced a life time of altering substances and states, but abducted and hiding it in his music? Nah...why not just come out and say it? Its not like he would have been ridiculed in the 60's for it, especially given that his crowd probably experianced many similar events.

Loving the conversation here guys, but why is this in ATS?I mean if Bob Dylan did meet aliens and wrote a song about it...we all should talk about that more than '___' and '___'...

On a side note, trying them is on my wish list, if only to see if the OOB experiences and other dimension travelling thing is as it seems...

If aliens are inter-dimensional travelers, maybe it's very possible that certain drugs allow your minds eye to travel interdimensionally and communicate with them.

Edit: The American Indians were able to communicate with spirit guides in the same way. Aliens=spirit guides???? There is still a lot we don't know about the mind and spirit and their abilities. I don't really want this thread to turn into a pro-drug thread, but I believe that there may be some kind of connection between certain substances and the spirit world.

Peace

Not only that, but shamans from south america claim to have travelled outside our solar system, while in altered states, and interacted or communicated with other entities. Did they actually transend time, space and body to interact with our distant universal cousins?

I don't think Bob Dylan was abducted by aliens! He wrote in metaphors and archetypes. Myth, poetry and art all work with the same psychic material. In fact, there's a lot to be said about the theory that UFO abductions are actually a modern manifestation of such archetypal lifeforms, what Jung called "autonomous psychic entities" and what shamans call spirits.

Transdimensional rather than extraterrestrial; inner space rather than outer space.

I am personally beginning to find the ET take on this type of experience a little simplistic.

If Bob Dylan was abducted, it was by spiritual forces, not aliens. He saw the in-between, the worlds we refuse to acknowledge or condemn to science fiction.

Recently while at Glastonbury festival I took a concoction of drugs and finished off my night with two fat scoops of ketamine.

While under the influence I experienced something very scary.

I travelled to 3 different dimensions after which I thought I was dead.

After my experience I met a lady in the healing fields. The lady was a shaman, I explained my experience to her and she suggested I may have travelled to different dimensions but she said its dangerous for someone to do this as 1. they don’t understand what is happing thus the experiencer becomes “scared #less.” (Her words not mine)

She said she travels to different dimensions but induces her experience while beating on a drum.

It was all very interesting stuff.

It depends on the quality and chemist that produced the '___', but on average (in my experience) you're correct. And I agree with your theory. The alterations to the mind usually have A LOT to do with the environment they're experienced in. You're not going to do much self-exploration or really much of anything else - than freaking out, if you take such substances at a football game. Given the same substances while camping with good friends, you could quite possible have a great time and laugh all night, or maybe explore the depths of your mind.

Back to the OP:
Could be that Mr. Dylan was relating an extraterrestrial experience, but more than likely he was only using the words metaphorically. There are other lines in the song that suggest that indeed he may have been on an "altered" train of thought and only word-playing the experience into a song.

My weariness amazes me, I'm branded on my feet,
I have no one to meet

Though you might hear laughin', spinnin', swingin' madly across the sun,
It's not aimed at anyone, it's just escapin' on the run
And but for the sky there are no fences facin'.
And if you hear vague traces of skippin' reels of rhyme
To your tambourine in time, it's just a ragged clown behind,
I wouldn't pay it any mind, it's just a shadow you're
Seein' that he's chasing.

Then take me disappearin' through the smoke rings of my mind,
Down the foggy ruins of time, far past the frozen leaves,
The haunted, frightened trees, out to the windy beach,
Far from the twisted reach of crazy sorrow.
Yes, to dance beneath the diamond sky with one hand waving free,
Silhouetted by the sea, circled by the circus sands,
With all memory and fate driven deep beneath the waves,
Let me forget about today until tomorrow.
