Following yesterday's statement by Homeland Security chief Michael Chertoff's that his remarks on the increased risk of terrorism this summer were based "on a gut feeling," the Homeland Security Committee Chairman Bennie G. Thompson has sent a letter to Chertoff demanding an explanation, "what color code in the Homeland Security Advisory System is associated with a 'gut feeling?' What sectors should be on alert as a result of your “gut feeling?”
Thompson continues by asking Chertoff to further explain what measures the country should take based on his instincts, "What cities should be asking their law enforcement to work double shifts because of your “gut feeling?” Are the American people supposed to purchase duct tape and plastic sheeting because of your 'gut feeling?'"

What amazes me is that something like this has not already happened on US soil since 9/11.
"Gut" just doesnt cut it with the American people. What are we, idiots? Is Chertoff psychic? Did he have a dream? Has he had a "vision"?

The only reason I can think of as to why Chertoff said "gut" feeling is because he knows something is going to happen and can not reveal the pertinent information.
Truer words were never spoken. If we were smart and that includes me, we'd stop worrying about all bad things and tell them all to go to hell with their little schemes like "backpacks" "bags" "airlines turning around because of a threat" etc.

Is Santorum expressing foreknowledge of some coming atrocity or is he merely using a tactic familiar to the leadership of his party - exploiting the fear of terror for the purposes of political rhetoric?
Last month, the new chairman of the Arkansas Republican Party Dennis Milligan said that there needed to be more attacks on American soil for President Bush to regain popular approval.
"At the end of the day, I believe fully the president is doing the right thing, and I think all we need is some attacks on American soil like we had on [Sept. 11, 2001]," Milligan told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, "And the naysayers will come around very quickly to appreciate not only the commitment for President Bush, but the sacrifice that has been made by men and women to protect this country," he concluded.

I can offer a quite simple solution to put this topic to rest, once and for all. Ready?
Heads = They Attack Us Now
Tails = They Attack Us Later

In the meantime, I will go on living my life as normal. If / When something does occur, I will dust off my trusty Y2K stash, get some bottled water, lots of junk food, gas for the generator, a few batteries and tons of beer. And oh yes...duct tape and plastic sheeting. ;-)
I sure hope CNN stays on the air long enough to cover it so I can TIVO everything and come up with a new conspiracy theory shortly thereafter.
Please pass the pretzels and a beer. Cheers.
