Using a nuclear reaction to give a space craft the begin speed. And later when on speed activate the iondrive(s)
. Why? because iondrives take a lot of time to get on speed. I think when a craft protected by a shield on its end and with 4 ion drives on each side of a round shield a little bit behind it so it is also protected from the blast. when it has exploded or when it is start the iondrives and you will stay on speed. just like if you got car starting trouble you will push the car on speed and when trying to start it starts and you can maintain speed and later speed on.

It will 'stay on speed' anyway. Theres nothing slowing it down. The ion drive functions the same no matter the speed its going at.

(Car metaphors tend to break down* when used in conjunction with space travel).

*Apologies for the horrific pun.

well a fighter which flies of a carrier can;t do it on its own you will have to give it a punch to get it on speed. they you use a catapult now steam later on magnetic force.

Airplane metaphors tend to crash when used in conjunction with space travel.*

A combination propulsion system is all well and good. But there is no extra boost to be gained from bump starting.

*Apologies again.

i thought of a quad ion drive also a while back but big ion drives not small ones and using a bussard collector to collect particles for fuel and also using conventional rockets as boosters.

ion drive is interesting technology, but its still pretty primitive.

without an engine that can really GO, what we need is something like a solar sail which would glide on neutrino and photon particle streams. or maybe something that can use cosmic rays as a form of propulsion.

ok but you know how big of a solar sail we would need and a solar said would be more prone to micrometieriotes.

to use a high (electro)magneticfield in a specific shape
on the base of a craft with an magnetic sphere under it which uses rapid
pole shifting.
So if in space the rapid pole shift attracts and bounch against the
magneticfield then in high frequenty there must be a shockwaving pulse
been created which can puch the craft in space. changing the shape of
the magneticfield above the magnetic sphere might control speed.

The problem with all magnetic propulsion ideas is that magnets are always symmetrical whether natural dipole magnets, or electromagnets.

There is simply no known way to create an asymmetrical magnet.

If you could you would have the needed material for UFOs, and free energy machines.

read a pretty interesting post about assymetrical force in the aliens and UFO's forum a couple of days ago.

it's a bit long, but extremely fasciniating, sort of relates to the magnetic drive, except using assymetrical capacitors enclosed in vaccums.

here it is

That was my post, and I wrote everything not in quotes.
