Strange. Across Europe the drinking age is far more lenient and statistics show drunk drivers are not such a leading cause of death as it is here. I don't think this has anything to do with the youth, instead, it has to do with terrible parenting & extremely harsh U.S laws when it comes to alcohol.

Personally, I believe it's better to introduce children to certain things as a parent then allowing peer pressure to be the introductory course. Your kids are far less likely to go rebellious on you when it comes to sex, drugs, or booze if you teach them correctly.

If she'd been introduced to alcohol while still in diapers, all this could have been avoided.

What harsh US alcohol laws? The law is its not legal to drink until 21. How is that harsh? Some kids are responsible, but no 11 year old needs to be drinking regardless of country she lives in.

It's bad parenting period.

How does an 11 year old have access to alcohol? There are some serious issues here. I'm guessing the whole family is in the shallow end of the gene pool!

As for the drinking age being 21 (Is that the whole of the states?) It would explain all the young sailors who are throwing up in the streets everytime a ship comes in to Hong Kong!

I think the 21 drinking age is stupid and probably adds the alcohol problems on the whole, I don't think it has anything to do with an 11 year old getting drunk and driving. I don't think anyone would believe that an 11 year old should be doing either of those, let alone together.

Yup, 21 years over the whole great USA. BUt we can start to drive as young as 15!

In this situation the mother was probly to drunk to go pick up her other daughter, and asked her other daughter to go pick her up. The child was probly stealing drinks from teh mother, or mabye its worse and the mother was drinking with her daughter and decided that she was the most sober to drive.

These parents should be thrown in JAIL, this girl needs to go to a childs prison, and no more :w:
