WASHINGTON - President Bush spared former White House aide I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby from a 2 1/2-year prison term in the CIA leak case Monday, stepping into a criminal case with heavy political overtones on grounds that the sentence was just too harsh.

I feel that this is a disgraceful, appalling abuse of position and naked nepotism by a man who has only utter contempt for the concepts of probity and justice. However, seven years of incompetent and irresponsible behaviour have shown that Bush has never baulked from disgracing and damaging the values and reputation of America in the service of his cronies, so really, can anyone be surprised by this?
