If one is inclined to serve this great nation by fulfilling what in the Major's mind is an obligation, Army infantry is the only way to do it!
Nothing endears the body and soul to one's country like getting up at Oh dark thirty for an extended march and live fire exercise. While the Major is
well aware of the tactical and strategic benefits of the application of air superiority in theatre, it by no means implies that it is a suitable
calling for our patriotic youth.
Dismissed.
As much as I love my brothers in the ARMY, I will tell you that's there more than one way to serve your country. People that serve in the military in
any kind of fashion are taking years out of their life to protect this country. From the Navy cooks, to the Marines ground pounders, to the AF
plumbers they all share the same valour and courage that should make every citizen of this country feel proud. Also a lot of civilians that work for
the military when they could be getting bigger paychecks in a corporate job deserve respect. People that volunteer for Red Cross, AmeriCorps, people
from the FBI,CIA the list can go on an on of persons that have given the ultimate sacrifice or has dedicated their life to serve this country.
I believe that you myopic vision in this case is a direct result of the War in Iraq, and I will say it again, I take my hat off to the Army, they have
taken the brunt of this war and many of the casualties of it. That said, you need to remember how the Kosovo War was won, only with Air Power and not
only provided by the Air Force but by the Navy and Marines as well, not even one boot was put on the ground and we took one of the most barbaric
regimes that have taken power since Hitler.
The way that wars are fought are decided mostly by politicians who have their own agendas, they are the ones who make the decisions, and as a direct
result of those decisions some units or branches of the military are going to feel the most direct impact for the mission than others, thats is not to
say that whoever dont fall in to that small group is not serving his country.
With your statement you show a lot of ignorance as how military operations are conducted and what it means to serve your country.
