Thanks for the fix MM.
Cheney says VP office is not part of Executive Branch
See? Thats exactly what I was talking about. Take a quote, from someone else. Change or abbreviate it, and viola, instant scandal. Exagerative
BS.
The real quote was from chief of staff, David Addington. Not Cheney. The quote was then cut in half so that it doesn't even reflect what the point of
the quote was. And people fall for this all the time.
Wasn't the actual quote: "The Vice President’s office does not believe it is included in the definition of ‘agency’ as set forth in the
order,” nor is it an “entity within the executive branch that comes into the possession of classified information"?
Cheney did not say that his office was not part of the Executive Branch in that quote, did he?
Now if people want to argue the actual contents of the quote, no problem. But why did CNN go to the trouble of the exageration, bluff and bluster?
Anyone?
[edit] Ah, I see that CNN just quoted William Leonard, director of the Information Security Office, National Archives as saying that Cheney said he
was not part of the Executive Branch. So it seems that William Leonard did the misquote, and CNN wrote the article in such a way that people come off
with the idea that Cheney actually said it.
Such a petty little thing for William Leonard to do, just because he doesn't get the access he thinks he is entitled to.
I mean, come on. Mr. Leonard can't really think that quote meant that the VP's office isn't part of the Executive Branch can he? But if he really
does, what the heck is he doing in the Information Security office, and who did he pay to get that job?
