Twelve shell beads discovered in a cave in eastern Morocco have been dated at more than 80,000 years old, making them one of the earliest examples of human culture. The beads are colored with red ochre and show signs of being strung together.

That's an awesome discovery, and kind of disturbing to think that we uncovered objects once used by people so long ago

I agree, It seems very strange to me that something was created by our ancestors 80,000 years ago and probably hasn't been touched since. Amazing

It's always facinating when a find like this happens


Many prehistoric humans used ostridge egg shells to make their beads. I once read an article that dated one dig site back 50,000 years and small needle like bones used to drill holes in the delicate egg shells were also found around the beads.

Ya know, I would love witness early human culture first hand. If only time travel were possible
