Is an American ever qualified? This says it all
"Matthews was hired by Michael Kamburowski, an Australian citizen"

Who cares anymore? This world is officially globalized, and that will become more and more obvious as the century continues. Borders are pointless, and so are nationalist titles.

I used to be patriotic as hell, but now I don't even consider myself an American. I am simply a member of the earth.

Yes, if only Jews realized that. It would bring peace to ME.

I question the validity of this as being a social issue firstly.

Secondly, who frigging cares, why should you have to hire someone from a specific location,
I mean hire someone who can do the job, not just because they're American,
which in my opinion is'nt something to be very proud of anymore, nor very important either.

With this statement in mind, there is only one way to address the following statement;

If only the Jews, the Arabs, the Moslems, the Christians, the Europeans, the Americans.......if everyone realized that we ALL live under one title -- human beings -- peace would come to ALL.

Okay now that I have stopped chuckling at sb2012's comment, maybe you should take it as a compliment that nobody in America was enough of a devious political slimeball to do the job properly ?

All depends how you look at it.

They had to hire a professional assassin from overseas with the requisite talent. Gee that's a scary thought about Australian politics or am I reading it wrong.

If they recruited him to reform and civilise American politics then it's terrible.

The only important consideration here is whether or not he overstays his visa. Otherwise, there is no reason that the California Republican Party can't hire whomever they please for the post in question.

This is a very important social issue, I think, but it would help if rdang would beef up his opening posts just a little to give others some idea as to how to approach the subject.

borders simply hurt the world at this point.

Figures you'd post that. I hate that 'song' (communist rhetoric).

Grady is correct. The party can hire who ever it wants... as long as that person is hired legally. At this point, it seems that he's completely legal. I understand what Rdang is saying, that it would be nice if they hired an American for this role. (personally I hope they looked to America first.) But the law says they can hire whoever they want.

If Matthews is the best person for the job, so what. This happens all the time, all over the world.

Organisations want to recruit the best talent, not just look locally and take what is availabe locally.

It must hurt when you apply for a job and it is given to somebody from overseas.

Would the GOP have done this without a serious search within the US?

Sounds like 1984. I'll keep my religion and national sovereignty, thank you. I don't think we'd do too well with China's influence.

Nothing to kill or die for.
Better get the thought police for that one.
