Finally the real truth about Roswell?
Or mere propaganda to sell a book on the 60th Anniversary of the historic crash?
You decide.

Like anything, we have to balance a number of factors to determine whether this is credible.
[ol]
  • The credibility of the author, which may be influenced by any money he is making from his book
  • The credibility of the source
  • The circumstances of the release
  • And most importantly, whether the released information actually makes sense. Too often people in ufology leave their common sense at the door with regards to these things.
    [/ol]
Just from the name and the circumstances, I am hopeful that a book like this will help fill at least a small part of the puzzle.

I admit it looks interesting and encouraging, but to me it looks like a stunt.
The release date is very suspect, right at the same time the interest in Roswell will be at an all time high..Maybe i should not judge its credibility by that, but you must admit they couldnt of picked a better day for release..

I think the boy has been telling that same thing for some time. I remember hearing it a few years ago on a show called Unexplained Mysteries hosted by Robert Stack.

I would like to think the fact he is a Medical Physician later in life would give him some credibility as a witness.

If the Roswell incident is something the powers that be have done thier utmost to cover up for this long, is there any chance or any new or revealing thruths appearing in this book?

I doubt it, there are too many people who don't want the truth out there. This would'nt have got through the publishing stages.

No more info IMO, just a ploy to sell the book.

The bit about his dying fathers words sounds a little too much like Former Watergate spy E.Howard Hunts son.
When i was reading it the alarm bells were ringing, and that plus the release date is enough for me to be very wary of the possibility this could be a biased publication, solely intending to make cash instead of portraying the true truth of the Roswell incident.
Saying that it could just be an innocent coincidence that he is just using the same terminology as a lying drug dealer..
    Cest la vie

AFFIDAVIT OF JESSE A. MARCEL JR.

    (5) One night, I was awakened by my father in the middle of the night. He was very excited about some debris he had picked up in the desert. The material filled up his 1942 Buick. He brought some of the material into the house, and we spread it out on the kitchen floor.
    * emphasis mine

Where's it been All these years? ... back to the base, flown to Wright-Patt?

That's but one of the questions that's always plagued me regarding the "He woke me in the middle of the night ... excited about what he'd found ..." claim. Sure. Load it back in the car and about your way you go, but ... (?)Under the circumstances, it would seem as though "The material filled up his 1942 Buick" had NOT been previously inventoried nor accounted for. (?) So? Something as sensational and a never-seen-before Event ... no Souvenir? if only for the Boy?

    (8) My father said the debris was recovered from a crash site northwest of Roswell. He felt it was very unusual and may have mentioned the words "flying saucer" in connection with the material. He was certain it was not from a weather balloon.
    * emphasis mine

Personally, "and may have mentioned" is but little more than "I THINK I remember ..."

My wife's grandfather was stationed at Roswell in '47, a Master Seargant at the time. He passed away a few years ago, but always "glassed over" when asked about The Event. [paraphrased] "I gave my word and signed my name. That's all I can [will] say."

I still hold immense respect for this man, his word and a handshake were golden ... though it didn't stop me from asking when the conversation "went that way" ...
unfortunately, never resulting in any avail.

"I gave my word and signed my name. That's all I can [will] say."

Reminds me of what my step-father used to say. He was in data recovery and destruction before retiring from the USAF. One day in conversation, he said "do you wanna know what really happened at Area 51? Well it doesn't matter, because I can't tell you." I said "who will know?" No matter what I tried, he would not tell me. He said he has seen many things, and made many pieces of digital info completely disappear due to security classification. I still don't know if I believe anyone with involvment in the Area 51 projects. They were all brain-washed into secrecy. The old-time "make you vanish" threat must have worked pretty well on the employees of this base.

I read the preview to the book and the story is no different than anything of heard of on "Sightings", "Unsolved Mysteries", and I think there have been a few movies based on the events of Roswell. So based upon the book preview that described the fragments being brought home and the story change these thing are all known so "Roswell 1947 UFO Crash Finally Resolved" is a far reaching statement.

You have to remember... the military people at that time had just come out of WWII and the Cold War was just beginning to ramp-up. Military Code of Conduct and secrecy were taken VERY seriously by these people. My dad was an officer with the Army. I remember him spending most of a Saturday afternoon burning a trunk full of military training manuals one page at a time because that 'was the way it was done'. We can get pretty much any of them on the web these days but back then it was serious business.

I think you make a Good point, jtma508. There was a different mindset regarding that which one swore to at the time, 'least in my opinion. Steadfast, if you will.

Hence, my [I assume] perceived as incessant inquiries regarding such. Lloyd went silent whenever I ventured there ... which often left me wondering. Ya' know?

At what point does "I gave my word" end and "You won't believe this ..." begin?

    ?

    [edit: to add]
That is IF "You won't believe this" actually exists ...

Didn't Marcel's wife sweep some fragments of the stuff out the back door because it was dirtying up her kitchen? I guess she wasn't all that impressed by The Greatest Discovery in the History of Mankind.

I often thought about that, why they didn't keep a piece of the debris as a souvenir?I mean who would know it was missing,Its not as though this object was ever examined before.

for the same reason his father followed the rest of the orders given him.
thats how they keep things secret

I believe that Roswell was the second event, the first in 1941

This whole story reads like a mellow drama from the article to his website that currently has only 874 hits.

    www.marceljr.com...

Take note of the up coming appearances, then put those together with 60th Anniversary where he will be signing books and it all adds up to Ching Ching let the cashregister ring. Other things that come to mind are the news release was supposed to be released on the 4th of July yet it was released in June and the article with all its link read just like one big add to promo the book.

    Just read the opening paragraph

    Source

In 1986, on his death bed, retired Major Jesse Marcel told his son; "You must tell the world the truth about Roswell. When the military no longer has a hold over you and your family, please set the record straight!"

See what I mean by mellow drama? On his deathbed, You Must set the record straight.

Other things mentioned also raise other questions. He claims to be the last living survivor of Roswell and if memory serves me correct that might be a wrong statement.

    Just tell me this:-

Why do we automatically ASSUME someone who was a witness to an event wishes to write a book based on what he saw is considered 'cashing in on the opportunity', an opportunist, a cheater, a liar, etc, etc when we have not even seen or read the book itself?

Have we become so 'mcdonalized' that baseless assumptions are facts itself? Our mental rationalizing evolved to light speed within one generation from our forefathers?

How else can one tell others in the world of a situation other than to write it down and publish it so that all may read it?

Does our society provides free marketing and free publishing? Internet publishing is not free and its marketing does not reach out to a wide audience as compared to mainstream news, dont waste time arguing on this point, its a proven fact otherwise advertisers would have not have handed over funds to news organisations.

Who makes the most money on a book? the publisher or the author? Shouldnt at least an author be compensated for his efforts, and the miniscule earned compared to the profits of the publisher, does it makes him a millionaire? Afterall, can anyone predict it will be a bestseller?

Burn all the libraries, books and authors then, including scientists who publish their works, for they make money out of their publications as well, if the rational that all authors who benefit from their works are liars, conmen, cheaters, etc. Why bother reading anything. Dump the comp too as well unless you only play games or watch porn on it.

Couldn't have said it better myself...

I would add though that it appears only skeptics make such comments. Could it be that they don't want such information out in books?

These same people have said many times "you should do all your hours of research and offer it freely on the web...or you have no credibility"

I find that laughable, because even when you do, they still attack your credibility because the evidence you present does not agree with their views...

Never mind that we have the freedom to publish!

Don't like the subject" Don't buy the book...

And I do believe there are just as many skeptics out there "raking in the cash" by publishing their side

Technically the author was not a witness. He wrote the book based on what his father told him or so it appears.

Frankly, I think had this come from two or three sources, I think it might have not been suspect to me. All you have to do is check the source page of the article it links to the writer/author and publishers site.

For me I just see too many coincidences here to let it go without digging into whatever information one can find before passing final judgment..
