Okay, was doing some really random surfing and i came across....this.

Better Life Through Chemistry

Short excerpt.

BLTC RESEARCH was founded in 1995 to promote paradise-engineering. We are dedicated to an ambitious global technology project. BLTC seek to abolish the biological substrates of suffering. Not just in humans, but in all sentient life.

Absurdly fanciful? No. The blueprint for a Post-Darwinian Transition to a cruelty-free world is conceptually simple, technically feasible and morally urgent.

What intrigued me is the site's seemingly enthusiastic advocation of MDMA (ecstacy)...a very interesting read. Quite disturbing as well.

I see coming of one long thread!

Great job!

Well, I have for some time David Pearce page bookmark - as I am interested in “transhumanists“ ideas.

What do we say ( if possible ) about such “paradise“ human condition? Can we even imagine that? Elimination of all forms of cruelty, malaise and suffering.

“Designer mood“ drug are just the first step, according to Pierce - but in a long term he envisions “redesign the whole global ecosystem - rewriting of the whole vertebrate genome - no suffering at all“. No Buddha needed any more. Just good biotechnology.

You would not need that - coz , as genetically engineered being - you would not even know, what suffering is, you would be pre-programmed for happiness. Only the “old“ one would know such thing ( but in 3rd millennium - they will not even exist) . You will be completely new spices.

Before the discussion , can we achieve that ...do we or do we not want happiness..peace...love...harmony...and what is the difference between achieving this “natural“ and biotech? What is the difference of genetic engineering ( or now day enchantments) our body to be healthy, strong and pretty and “emotional“ design?

What is the role of pain? What pain teaches us?

Would evolution strike back?

Not so much disturbing to me -- as a revisiting of some very trite old Timothy Leary/Aldous Huxley material. When they talk about "rewriting the vertebrate genome" I just kind of wince. I think they got their information from meditation sessions instead of reading up on the basic ideas.

I don't think the transhumanists have examined things as closely as they should, and make some rather huge assumptions (not everyone likes the idea of the Christian paradise (it sounds hellishly boring to me!))

Could we be free of all pain and problems? Perhaps. But would mood enhancing and calming drugs be good for us? I'm not as convinced of that. It sounds wayyyyy too much like Brave New World and the happy little alphas and betas.

Brrrrrrrrrrr.....

Huxley 'soma' will be more and more present.

Just look at this new idea - drug that kills need to sleep..
get ready for 24-hour living
... or ecstasy was first prescription drug...and could gain medical respectability ,again.
ecstasy

I think that if we evolve more - we should know that cruelty is bad ...without drugs or biotech.

Here's a dose of reality: subjects with congenital analgia - insensitive to pain - often die young as a result of infection in unnoticed & untended injuries.

For such a seemingly intelligent lot of aspiring super-humans, transhumanists are really quite moronic. (for the most part)
