Daytime celestial sightings?

I was recently lolling about in my hammock, gazing skyward watching birds when I noticed a stationary object that was above commmercial airspace(a jet coincidently had flown underneath the object).
The orb-like object didn't move as if flying, reflected light like it was white, and for reference was about a third the size of . I watched it for about an hour, and in this timeframe it probably covered 5 degrees in a westerly direction. Can planets be seen during the day? The moon of course is visible, but are our closest celestial neighbors? I'm hoping no, My Mother is up three ufo sightings to my nada.

you can see venus in the evening...I have never seen venus in the middle of the day.

I have seen exactly the same as yourself.

Time was mid day.
Location yorkshire U.K
Size as you described.
Others saw it also.
Clear blue skies with some of those really high up clouds.

White ball like the size you suggested then moved right to left. Looked like it was trying to conceal itself above the cloud. Then it went really slow then halted for around 15 minutes. Then i lost visual contact with it.

well if the OP lives in or near yorkshire he just have had his first UFO sighting.

OP, I love it. I too think you saw a UFO. But what really got me was the part about you and your mother racking up scores. UFOs are becoming so common that it's become a competitive sport to watch for them.

Is there a point system? I mean does a real close one count more than a tiny, hard to see UFO? Is there bonus points for daylight sightings, where they're harder to pick out?

This is great. And the authorities keep on telling us they are not there. They're getting so thick that this will overtake the popularity of trainspotting, and nobody denies trains.

My Mother's most memorable sighting also involved military aircraft. I posted real time as it was happening last year. She lives in rural Maine that gets alot of Mil. aircraft activity to begin with. But this she says was phenominal. All our craft could do was circle back in forth in as tight a formation as our technology allowed, while the UFOs (three to be exact) just simply moved out of the way.
Maybe I'm finally up one, not a "manned vehicle" but maybe a drone or probe. If it was a planet, venus to be exact, shouldn't I have seen it again around the same time of day during the same conditions?

This morning in a completely cloudless sky, I saw a white sphere in the SSW, approx. 45 degrees in elevation from the horizon. It remained motionless for over an hour and thru 16x25 binocs, it looked like a weather balloon. I thought balloons either rose in elevation or drifted with the wind currents. This thing was absolutely motionless. I couldn't determine size or elevation.

I watched it for appx. an hour then left to take care of business and when I returned, it was gone.

My GF saw the same thing yesterday.

I will be checking again tonite and tomorrow AM; and post updates

update: It was a weather balloon launched from FT. Sumner, NM. Just announced on the local 10:00 news.

If you know exactly where to look, Venis is bright enough to be seen during the day time. That's probably what you saw.

Might also be geostationary satellites... under the right conditions, you can spot them easily. There's a number of sites for satellite spotters... you might check and see which ones match your location and sighting:

Here's a good link on how to spot Venus during the day. Check it out and go see if you can find it again. You'll be able to confirm if that is what you saw on the previous occasion.

Its very easy to see planets during the day. really depends upon the position of the planet in relation to the Sun and Earth.

SSW, white sphere, approx. 45 degrees in elev. from horizon... same features I started this thread with. Based on my object's slow moving trajectory from my neck of the northeast, it may be venus.
