(AP) -- Real estate is often a long-term investment. But 10,000 years? Lo'ihi Development Co. will soon start offering oceanview lots speculators won't even be able to stand on for many millennia. That's because they're currently submerged more than 3,000 feet below sea level - on an underwater volcano called Lo'ihi, located about 20 miles southeast of the Big Island.

www.physorg.com...[

I was gonna post this in the Fragile Earth forum....but for some reason I felt it was more appropriate here....

This is nuts. Like 10000 years from now the "deeds" to this land are gonna be valid.

The Web site advertises, "Lo'ihi Seaview Estates: Real Estate for the Future. Grand Water View Front Lots." A photo of the sales office is a raft in the middle of the ocean

This is a disgusting display of the ridiculousness of human existance. What bothers me is not that they appear to be scam artists, or that they think we are stupid enough to believe it. Its not even the fact that it may just be a joke for people to talk about.

Its the fact that ignorant people will attract other ignorance. If for just one year we could stop all this idiocy and focus that stupidity on real issues in this world.

Im sure im over reacting, but its my nature to see where logic could be utilized and is abandoned(and reported on) for the mild and fleeting satisfaction of ones entertainment.

Then again....let the ignorami buy thier land. After all its a volcano. Might be a good way to get rid of them.

Each to their own. I wonder if you could get mineral rights with that. Volcanoes often produce diamonds.

And I'll bet they make money. Remember someone was selling land on the Moon a couple of years ago? I know someone that actually made this purchase.

I am sure they will make something off of it. If its completely illogical the crazy will go for it....

I will laugh if this goes through and then in 10k years some idiot realizes hi great great great, ect. grandfather bought the inside of a crater as a piece of land....thanks for the inheritence, eh?

I always wondered about the buy a star program. Do you get just the star or the whole star system? If you get the system and there happens to be a planet with life as we know it, can you legally subjugate the people or at least collect rent or something?

Volcano land speculation, provided the deeds were upheld as valid and you bought the whole island for like 30-40 bucks. Might make a future relative a bit of money. Best name it Fantasy Island to be on the safe side.

But as a dutiful representative of the city, state and county of New York I got to confide in you that they are a little short on funds and are thinking of selling the Brooklyn Bridge to a guy from France. Now obviously we would like to buy it back with a bit of intrest when we become a little more solvent with next year's budget. We got into this spot paying the taxi drivers a raise when they had that strike last month. So anyway if the guy from France buys it, he might want to move it Versailles. So I have to ask, as a good American do think you could help us out here and keep this marvel of modern construction out of the hands of the French that spit whenever anyone mentions the word American?
