Years of skirmishes and sabre rattling culminated in all-out war, with Israel quadrupling the territory it controlled and gaining complete control of double the resources of fresh water.

A country needs water to survive and develop.

In Israel's history, it has needed water to make feasible the influx of huge numbers of Jewish immigrants.

Therefore, on the margins of one of the most arid environments on earth, the available water system had to support not just the indigenous population, mainly Palestinian peasant farmers, but also hundreds of thousands of immigrants.

In addition to their sheer numbers, citizens of the new state were intent on conducting water-intensive commercial agricultural such as growing bananas and citrus fruits.

was that israels intentions?
gain extra ground near water (fresh water)
as stated its required for econmic growth as its need for drinking, agricultral ect

Palestinians say they are prevented from using their own water resources
but are forced to buy water from israeli sources at a higher rate
while they give israelis in iligal settlements 5 times more for a fraction of the price

They lost over 30% of their old supplies to contamination. So it makes a lot of sense. Those swimming pools in the settlements need filling and with what they have available to them it aint going to keep going for long. Due to their hostilities towards neighbors you know that they won't make any deals to supply them with water thats for sure as being a good neighbor these kinds of things would be a benefit if instead of being enemies you would make deals with friends.

They look towards the Litani River now.

It's not just the aquifers and the Litani that has sparked conflict, but huge reserves of natural gas that have been found off the coastal waters of Gaza, with an estimation that under those gas pockets also lie oil reserves too.

Israel has long stated that they cannot and will not allow another nation to jeopardise its national security by restricting access to either
