Teen Arrested in Possible Plan to Bomb Falwell Protesters

www.foxnews.com

A 19-year-old Liberty University student was arrested late Monday night after Virginia cops found he had napalm-like devices that he may have been planning to use on protesters at Rev. Jerry Falwell's funeral, FOX News confirmed.

Mark Uhl, of northern Virginia, was found to have five devices in the trunk of his car that were described by the Campbell County Sheriff's Department as some type of "bomb" with detonation devices.

Crazy. I have to assume by protesters they are referring to the Phelps clan.

I'm not fan of Phelps, and I hate the fact that so many states have passed laws restricting his freedom of speech, but I would never approve of his murder, or the murder of his followers. I feel people like him will get what they deserve through their own actions.

As harsh as it may sound, I really would'nt be sad if he had succeeded.

These people are some of the most despicable individuals in this country and on the planet
as a whole, they are nothing but a cult (the bad kind) in my opinion.

I remember they were going to protest at a veterans funeral in my state a year or two ago,
but they did'nt turn up after news that a very large biker gang would be attending the funeral.

Are you saying on this issue I am actually more liberal than *gasp* you?!

Alas... I think you have it backwards on which side is pro-conservation of life and which is not.

But they're just brainwashed like most other people in this country. They can still be "saved". But I must admit while I wouldn't condone their murder, I wouldn't shed a tear if Phelpsite bodies started turning up.

Well maybe, I did'nt say I would'nt try to keep them from dying, but I would'nt be sad.

Yep, I agree.

Does this strike anyone as bizzare? What kind of mentality was instilled in this man to take such an action? Are Christians going to be the next extremists? Religion has been warped for centuries, used as a tool to gain and exercise power over man. I feel that this may be the tip of the iceberg.

Ok this kid needs a one-way ticket to GITMO, because that is terrorism of the extremeist form. He obviously is not a Christian, because none of his plans can be justified in the Bible.

Send him to the carrot farm on Cuba.

If someone want's to beat the crap out Phelps-bunch, i'll be happy to lend my baseball bat to you. But firebombing someone is way too harsh, the kid clearly hasn't seen any army films on napalm burns...

Indeed this would seem to fit the classical definition of domestic terrorism.

However I haven't seen it reported anywhere that the bomber is Christian. So unless someone has something to correct this I think the only Christian extremists in this issue would be the Phelpsites at one end and Falwell at the other.

It is also interesting to note that there were three others allegedly involved, one of which is a US soldier. I have yet to see any further information about them.

Well, I cannot condone the act. However, I must honestly say that I am not surprised. If one listens to some of the vitriolic rhetoric that is spewed from the mouth's of the Phelp's clan, it is no wonder that they are the receiver of so much ire.

I'm not trying to defend what he did or claim that he was a christian but what is this about I know many christians that have done at least one thing not justified in the bible. He could be closer to christ than you for all we know

Ubelievable. If Christians decide it's alright to murder people for their "god" you can count me out. That kid should do some serious time for even thinking about bombing other people. Oy vaay.

So, now we want the thought police to come and take him away? He should do serious time for plotting (that includes making the bombs) but not for thinking about it. I know I'm probably just argueing semantics but at least IMO there is a difference.

Unlawful posession of ordinance, intent to commit multiple murders and conspiracy are some charges that come to mind for that wayward child. Hardly a free speech issue or free thought.

They cause so much emotional stress to bereaved families, I'm not surprised someone planned a retaliation.

On that subject, does the first amendment protect them from an emotional distress court case?

Yes. Emotional distress is usually tied to loss of a loved one [the funerals don't count] or traumatic physical injury.

The Phelpsites will fix themselves... probably with Kool-Aid. They don't need any help from other disturbed individuals following the Anarchists Cookbook.

Most of these groups view the world as being out of control, which it is. However, many of these groups that make such a declaration are just as out of control as the people they condemn.

Like you said, apc, I wouldn't be surprised to see this group pull some type of "Heaven's Gate" type scenario where they make a video declaring themselves "too good" to be a part of the world any longer.

What the kid would have done would make him a hypocrite. He was planning on killing a group he hates, because they hate another group.

He really needs to look at what he was going to do and the repercussions of it. His hate will not end another person's hate.

Crusades anyone? Christians already were extremists. Just ask the natives on the continent of north america
Your location says california. All the missions we have here, made to try to convert mexicans and native americans. More often than not, they didnt have a choice.
