hey,
today my friends played a very cruel joke on me;
they created 4 new accounts, 3 admin and 1 limited, but they deleted my account and all my pictures and music and documents are gone, i restored the system to the time when they deleted my account but when i logged on my stuff was still gone.

anything you guys could help with would be great,

thanks in advance

Would be good if you could give the specifics of your computer.

What Operating System do you have?

Also, don't use that computer for anything!! Even though the pics, etc. appear to be gone, they may still be there, but only "marked" as deleted and will not appear. If you use your computer enough that those files are overwritten, than you can kiss the pics, etc. goodbye.

You will need to get a hold of a file recovery program to retrieve the files that have been deleted, but most times it can be done.

Do a GOOGLE search for file recovery applications. And hopefully if you can download a decent one, it will help you to recover the missing files. Sorry, but I don't have any links to "known" applications, perhaps one of the experts here can be of more assistance in that area.

I also got to thinking, they may have marked those files "hidden". Have you checked for hidden files???

Okay, first check if hidden files are visible. To do this:

Go to My Computer

Click on "Tools", Then "Folder Options".

Click on the "View" tab.

Make sure the box marked "Show hidden files and folders" is checked.

Another thing you might want to do, is check to see if they only moved your files to another location.

The Search function should be useful for this.

Use the wildcard character * in your search like this...

*.jpg* to search for .jpg files

*.mp3* to search for mp3 files

and so on, for all the file extensions that you remember using for your stuff.

Okay, I don't know of any decent file recovery programs off hand, try to do a search here on ATS in Computer Help, as I know this has been brought up before (the retrieval of deleted files)

Okay, I found this one called Free Undelete:

officerecovery.com...

Don't know much about it, though.

and some more here...

www.snapfiles.com...

You should be able to find something usable there.

hope you get your stuff back.

I had a disasterous hard drive failure several years ago. I was devastated by the losses of so many things that could not be replaced. Now I have a backup hard drive.

Let us know how you make out with the recovery.

Perhaps the files are still in the Recycle Bin. Depends on from which User Account they deleted the files...

That advice may not help much, but this will: Get new friends.

I've had the unfortunate experience of loosing some files once and what I recovered wasnt pretty. If you have been using your computer to type these posts and search the internet for a recovery program then your only making things worse. The best method is to remove your dirve as soon as possible and take it to someone who know what there doing or load a liveCD and work off that (that way your not writing to your hard drive) or load another OS on a different hard drive and mount your original hard drive as read only and go from there.
