It amazes me that we are nearly in 2010 and religion plays such a huge role in society. 2010! I imagined we'd have moved away from such superstitions and reached for the stars and journeyed into deep spce. Are we being held back by religious dogma and prophercy

Will we always have these organised religions dominating our societies? It's getting boring

Maybe because after spending 1000 or more years persecuting and discriminating against anyone who didn't believe in the bible its time for the shoe to be put on the other foot.

Its about time.

Didn't realise that affected your life.... so sorry. It certainly has not affected mine!

But then where will all the churches get their money and power? How will I know who to vote for if politicians don't compete to say "Jesus" as many times as possible when they're campaigning. What would the world look like if people actually had to take responsibility and think for themselves? Plus I'd lose like eight or nine channels in my cable package.

Yup afraid so... the National Technology Transfer Center, the org responsible for what company gets access to new Tech is housed in the Wheeling Jesuit University.

Cash strapped NASA just donated 11 million to Wheeling Jesuit University.

How you like them apples?

Indecent, nah... C'mon, the Bible= words to live by!

Here, some of my favorites:

When a man sells his daughter as a slave, she will not be freed at the end of six years as the men are. If she does not please the man who bought her, he may allow her to be bought back again. But he is not allowed to sell her to foreigners, since he is the one who broke the contract with her. And if the slave girl's owner arranges for her to marry his son, he may no longer treat her as a slave girl, but he must treat her as his daughter. If he himself marries her and then takes another wife, he may not reduce her food or clothing or fail to sleep with her as his wife. If he fails in any of these three ways, she may leave as a free woman without making any payment. (Exodus 21:7-11 NLT)

Hrmm... now if you look at the context of the age... this is asking for much better treatment of slaves than was accepted at the time.

So to you and I it may look like they are condoning slavery, but to them they were being asked to realize that you can't have it both ways... they are either a slave or a member of your family.

"When you go out to war against your enemies and the LORD, your God, delivers them into your hand, so that you take captives, if you see a comely woman among the captives and become so enamored of her that you wish to have her as wife, you may take her home to your house. But before she may live there, she must shave her head and pare her nails and lay aside her captive's garb. After she has mourned her father and mother for a full month, you may have relations with her, and you shall be her husband and she shall be your wife. However, if later on you lose your liking for her, you shall give her her freedom, if she wishes it; but you shall not sell her or enslave her, since she was married to you under compulsion."
(Deuteronomy 21:10-14 NAB)

Once again... proper treatment of captives you want to have the spoils of war with. Notice it doesn't say "Rape and Pillage" as most invaders would do in that time. It says "If you want to have relations with one of the women... this is the proper way of going about it".

This was very progressive thinking for that day.

Not at all. I think the bible should be accessible to those over the ages of 16+. By that time you are a lot less influence etc. Just like Porn and other materials are classed as adult content. So should all religious texts.

Well we all know that indeed the bible have sex and violence and favoritism including racism.

But this only prove that the bible is as human as you and me, and that it was humans mentality the one that wrote it.

I find not wrong on that.

Seems people have something against Christians???

I believe the article talks about restricting access to the Bible for some lude sections. I did not see where it talked about restricting Christianity.

The Bible is also the book of the Jews. So, are they attempting to restrict Jews as well?

I do agree that Christianity is sometimes the more oppressed religion, but it is in part because Christinaity can be tied to tyranny and great grief has been caused in its name throughout history.

But I think it is going overboard when attempting to limit such a piece of literature that has had such an impact on world affairs throughout the ages.

The Old Testament which has all the 'begats' and destruction predates Christianity. Stop being a Martyr.

We do not allow that four letter F word to be used and its censored even here, yet the preachers can say.. Thou shall not Fornicate with Canines: and that is okay...

Means the same but yet it sounds a lot worse

Beside the last time I checked China is not a strong Christian stronghold

And what is it with this Christian need to thump on my door telling me I need to be saved before God ends the world with fire.
I get about three a week. Thinking of hanging a cross upside down on the door to get peace..

Telling me your God is about to end it all is NOT a good selling point
