Israel has developed its own anthrax vaccine after conducting secret experiments on hundreds of soldier volunteers, an official told public radio on Tuesday.

Giora Martinovich, a former chief medical officer in the military, told the radio that experiments on human volunteers had shown minimal side effects and therefore are deemed safe for the general public.

Apparently the experiments were first carried out late last century to combat a possible anthrax attack from Iraq.

With hostility toward Israel growing in the middle east this sort of development will be welcome news to the millions of Israeli inhabitants that live in fear.

That goes both ways. Israel hasn't been so nice towards the middle east either. Unfortunately, I for see no peace in that region any time soon.

But good work coming from Israel there. I'd hate to be one of the volunteers!
