Congress Approval Down to 29%; Bush Approval Steady at 33%

www.galluppoll.com...

Wow.......quite suprised to see this........the President...which soooo many seem to hate actually has a HIGHER approval rating than the DEMOCRATS in congress.

According to the May 10-13, 2007, Gallup Poll, 29% of Americans approve and 64% disapprove of the way Congress is handling its job.

Even though Democrats now control both houses of Congress, the poll shows that only 37% of Democrats approve of the job Congress is doing right now. These marks are, however, significantly better than those given to Congress by independents (24%) and Republicans (25%).

President Bush is holding steady and Congress is taking a nosedive.

Seems to me that trying to legislate defeat in Iraq, and non-support of the troops might have the most to do with the falling polls of Congress.

While Congress has gone down in the past few months, last year's Republican-held Congress was at 18% around this time.

Of 1,003 U.S. adults surveyed in a telephone poll, 29% think Mr. Bush is doing an “excellent or pretty good” job as president, down from 35% in April and significantly lower than 43% in January. Approval ratings for Congress overall also sank, and now stand at 18%.

Source

If I recall correctly, it dropped even lower than that, but I can't find a source confirming that at the moment.

Edit: I just noticed the graph on the Gallup link, which lists 21% for May 8-11, 2006. Which one is more correct, I don't know.

no, bush has the same approval rating as congress right now. HOWEVER, the thing is that both houses are multipartisan with a democratic majority (and barely one in the senate), so it's more a problem of both sides bickering and not getting anything done than anything else

Didn't we already win?

Aren't we just occupying Iraq now?

I'm upset with congress because they haven't done enough to try to end the war.

Things are going slow because our political system is corrupt. Instead of pushing what the general public wants we have our elected officals pushing around their own secret agendas.

There are far more important things to worry about then dumb stuff like gay marriage.

The Dem's are the closest thing that will actually listen, but they are a bunch of pansies who can't debate worth a damn, while the GOP gets the Dem's on dumb stuff like gay marriage. Which is beyond me how the general public can't see past the GOP's slandering and mud flinging.

Back on topic, Congress's low poll rates are because they haven't done on bit of help, we are still doing the same god damn stuff we were with the GOP house/senate.

However I give them props for reinfocing the need for warrents to get a wiretap.

Yup, and those 12 years of Republican rule will have a lasting effect on the image of Congress for years to come I'm afriad.

People hate Congress, love their Congressman. How it's always been. 435 SOB's go home once a quarter and say those 434 SOB's need a butt whooping and I'm just the SOB to do it. Pass the BBQ.

For even 37% of Dems to approve of such an abstract, mass maligned concept as Congress right now is frankly amazing.
