of course this is highly suspect (see posters comments) and there's most likely a logical explanation... but I have no clue what this is...

any ideas?

Yes it very likely is a large boat with a gray canvas cover on it that was being trailered down the road and the tow vehicle has got into an accident, jack knifing the boat and trailer. So what we may be seeing is the side view of the boat.
