Google - Future data mining?

Just read My Life Without Google and couldn't help but wonder how many sites we avoid because of similar worries. I remember Google fought to keep its data private previously, but is it possible the government would ever force the issue?

Personally, I use google too much to abandon it thanks to GDocs, GMail, etc; but I do shy away from any sort of automatic update from the big companies.

I think google is the government, now theyve got this one pay thing, they know what you search for, what you buy and god knows what else.

Ill never knowingly use them.
