Exploding Back Pack Kills Man In Las Vegas Casino

www.msnbc.msn.com

A backpack exploded in a parking garage attached to a Las Vegas hotel early Monday, killing a man who had picked it up and injuring another person, authorities said.

The man had removed the backpack from atop his car when it exploded shortly after 4 a.m. on the second floor of a parking behind the Luxor hotel-casino, said Officer Bill Cassell, a police spokesman.

The second person was taken to an area hospital.

A terror attack? Hard to think that it's not.
How would you remove the backpack? Obviously it had some sort of a pressure trigger, or perhaps a mercury trigger.

THis is a tough one. Where this could have been a terror attack gone awry I do like the mob/drug angle. However, when was the last time not in a movie you saw a hit like that. THey could have waited for him to come out and shot him, quiet. This is an odd one.

seems more like a mafia hit to me. Very deliberate, hitting one guy, put it on his car, boom. Terrorists try to take out large groups of people, not just some dude.

More I read it seems like someone did not pay a drug debt.

You may very well be right esdad. Pretty novel way to take someone out.

Possibly a new generation of 'firestarters'. Info on how to make a bomb is pretty available, maybe some people get their kicks off stuff like that.

Remember that pizza guy with the bomb strapped to his chest? 'Guess' was hand written on his shirt. Whatever happened in that case?

personally, it seems VERY covert ops, CIA/MI6, etc to kill that way. Think of some of the movies written from CIA accounts of hits they made...
Mafia... Maybe....

Who was this guy anyway? Any details of his identity released on another site?

This is getting better. Now it was not a backback but they will not release what it was or the victim. I have also read that a second device was detonated by LVPD but that is not confirmed anymore.

There is also a survivor so hopefully we can find out the back story. Could he have been putting it on the top of the car and it exploded as he attemped to umlcok the car? playing devils advocate here...

My take on this is that it was most likely a religious fanatic of somekind that wanted to make a very dramatic statement on the "evils of gambling" and decided to play God.

Sounds more like a disgruntled husband or girlfriend. You have to be near by to shoot someone, this way they could already be on a flight out of the country.

It could be just about anything. Hell it could even be an updated version of the Unibomber. Someone just getting their rocks off.

I think that if it was a mob hit the bomb would have been hiden inside the car. Under the hood or connected to the body. Sounds to me like he made the bomb and was going to transport it somewhere else. In the post 9/11 world it seems fun that the victim would not have notified casino security or Metro. And if it was there for any amount of time why didn't the hotel surveillance cameras pick it up.

its one of two things. Neither its a random or a deliberate event with a random victim. Or possibly a premeditated homicide. If its a random event like previously said it could be a new unibomber jerking off to newscasts. well next time i see a bag on the street ill be damned if i pick it up.

Possibly just an idiot who blew his last 6 months mortgage payments on a sports wager and was pissed off about his own stupid mistake.

Well one thing I can say is the whole TERRORIST angle can now be used as a great way to divert attention. As already seen in this thread and I'm sure ALL over the media, everyone or atleast the majority will think TERRORISM. So what does this do, it helps ease the pressure of off the REAL suspects who are probably Mafia or Private, settling a debt or deal gone bad. Its a great thing for ordinary criminals these days to use bombs or ANY terrorist type tactic...you do that and low and behold getting away with a crime became a lot easier since law enforcement and the media will be looking for more than just the simple answer.

In my opinion, definitly not terrorist related. If this was an OP carried out by "terrorists" the would of made sure that bomb went off INSIDE the casino. This guy was definitly a SOLO target.

My husband said he thought it was a mafia. Because, it was just one man that got killed from a backpack on top of the car.

I thought it was very sad, when I heard about it.

They said there was no damage to the buildings or anything else.

Never mind.

Clock was set to 12 instead of 24 hour rotations, through me off.
