There was a captain after Kirk?

You know, I watched all the original Star Trek episodes, the first time they were on and multiple times after on reruns. But I've never seen an episode of any of the Star Trek spinoffs.

You haven't seen The Next Generation, Voyager, Or Deep Spase Nine? Wait, don't forget Enterprise!!!

Johnathan Archer was the captain on Enterprise. Like Janeway he was limited by a terrible premise and an awful script at times. Also Enterprise messed with Gene Roddenberry's timeline, which a lot of fans can't forgive. How come that ship looked more advanced than Kirk's, which was supposed to 100 years after Archer's?

As someone said, Kirk's show pushed the boundaries of what tv could do at the time (it was only a tv show people!). Picard's had some good scripts, specially towards the end, but didn't make earth-shattering tv.

DS9, Voyager and (spit!) Enterprise were just money-making series for Paramount. Did you know that the Executive Producer of DS9 (can't remember his name at the moment) had never even watched the original series?

so, after all that I'll say Kirk was the best simply because of the time it was made and the ideas it put forward.

Nope. Not a minute's worth of any of them. A serious hole in my cultural resume which shall go forever unfilled.

Picard was best IMO, but Janeway had a few good episodes.

DS9 was dull, and I tried to watch Enterprise, but it bored me after about 5 minutes. I wanted a continuation of the story not a prologue.

And I haven't really seen enough of the original series to make a judgment on that. It's sort of like watching old Doctor who episodes, and being able to be entertained by the old special effects as much as the storyline itself.

ConstantlyWondering- Sisco

Black/ White has nothing to do with it. How dare you bring race into this. Even Malcom X knows Kirk was the best overall Captain. Martin Luther King had a dream, his dream said Kirk was the best. I know I'm going to H for saying that but, you shouldn't bring Race into a normal discussion.

PS Sisco suxed. Everything after Picard was just a downward spiral into a oblivion.

Kirk... is... not... the... best... captain... Anyway, Deep Space Nine was dull, but I disagree about Enterprise. It is a good show, but low budget. Voyager was good, but TNG was the best!!!

First, we have to remember that it is only actors who are playing Kirk, Picard, Sisko, Janeway, and Archer. The storylines are what determines sixty percent of the value of the series.

I've watched every episode of each of the series, and most of them again in reruns. The first series was groundbreaking with new ideas. TNG continued and expanded on the new ideas and was probably the most carefully thought out in terms of scientific and social quasi-plausibility. Sisko and Janeway were quite human but their episodes weren't as challenging in terms of questioning social mores. Archer was stuck in a weak series with a limited premise that had no place to go.

As far as the actors 40% contribution, Picard did by far the best job. Sisko and Janeway were also worthwhile. Scott Bacula was far better in his prior series where he kept jumping into different bodies and different realities.

Kirk was much too hammy as an actor even though the stories were great. He's far better suited to his role on Boston Legal as Denny Crane.

This is a tough question.. one of the toughest I think

Kirk blazed the trail... his... acting... and... poor... dialog... delivery... made... each... episode... take... forever.

If it wasn't for Spock, I think Kirk wouldn't be anything but a player macking on alien chicks.

Picard was peaceful, always talking about options before action. Dialog was great, and wonderful delivery of lines... but that's all. There was not much action, not like the original.. and if it wasn't for Q, All he would do is sip tea and talk to everyone about options.

Sisco was the best CO, cept... well, he wasn't really a captain. He was in charge of a star base. He earned my respect when he punched Q in the nose... and as much as i liked him, I can't say he's my favorite captain... That requires a ship... and the defiant really doesn't count.. didn't show up till season 3 or 4.

Janeway... ugh... can't stand that series. She was evil. EVIL!!!!

Archer... hmm... I think Scott Backula is an awesome actor. But he will always be Sam from Quantum Leap. I kept expecting Al to show up and give him the probability of leaping out.

So... For me it's a toss up. I see good and bad about each of the Captains...

I guess if i had to choose I would say Picard is the best captain.. but Sisco is the best CO.

Depends on what you're trying to achieve. If it's balls to the wall gotta go with Kirk. Diplomacy? Pfft, Picard all the way. Janeway annoys the crap out of me. Archer should be shot, with a bow.
My fav. is Picard but the best imo is Ben Sisko. He could do it all.

I do have one factor that I hadn't considered before that would change the ratings appreciably. With Voyager it's 7 of 9, and with Enterprise it's DePau. Those two ladies make up for quite a bit of other deficiencies.

In Enterprise the chicks name is T'Pol.

7 of 9. If only my computer was as sexy...

TOS had a load of sexy chicks, and very risque outfits. The Next Gen had Deanna and Tasha, DS 9 had Jadzia Dax.

Maybe I should change the thread to which Star Trek series had the hottest chicks.

Gave me an idea for a thread too.
