laiguana, what is so special about Iran that requires military force when they acuire defensive technology.

What about India and Pakistan? They have the ability to strike Europe, and even came close to their own nuclear war in the mid 90's, why have you never advocated pre-emptive strikes against them? They even threatened to destroy each other.

In any case, I hope I will find you in a jet, or on the ground, or stationed on a ship were war with Iran ever an option. I do not expect someone who advocates war with Iran be too cowardly to go fight against them.

I want to know what exactly makes you think this is defensive technology that Iran is interested in acquiring? Iran has double-talked for decades now. It is without a doubt that Iran views the United States as its number one enemy and therefore the U.S. should prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear technology by any means. This would be for the security and welfare of its' citizens. While India and Pakistan was a crisis in itself, it did neccessarily involve the U.S. directly. With Iran it's a whole different story.

I thought they already had a nuclear-capable missile able to reach Europe.

Something to reach the U.S. is still a long way off I think though. Of course they could deliver it via boat or something.

Currently, they can only strike the Balkans, Greece, that sort of area, if they chose too.

And russia, which has suicidally helped them with the technology to do so because it tweaked the U.S. Brilliant strategic move there, mr. putin.

Iran is a competitor to Russia in oil and gas exports.

The oil business there and the government aren't just "close", they are the same. Getting Iran involved in some nasty is good for Russian profits.

After he leaves his official presidential office, he will make a lateral move. Putin is likely to become CEO of Gazprom, Russia's most powerful company---imagine Exxon/Chevron/Walmart/Microsoft combined.

Chinese are playing Go.
Putin is playing chess.
Iran is playing dodgeball.
Europe is playing tiddlywinks.
US is stumped by tic tac toe.

Iran's targets are Riyadh, Amman and Cairo.

To them, yes these missiles are very threatening.

Oh here we go!

I love threads like this.

Firstly, the thread banner is misleading it should read

"Iran may be able to target missiles at the US and Europe in 8 years time"

Secondly, as, for the past 50 years the US/NATO and Warsaw pact each targetted major cities and military installations on both sides with nuclear weapons on permanent standby for retaliatory strikes its kind of a moot point anyway.

Thirdly, the combined arsenals of the US, Europe, Russia and China stands in the region of approximately 40,000 warheads, maybe more.

Now if anyone here thinks that - in theory - a single middle eastern state that is developing nuclear weapons and will have one, maybe two warheads in a few years time is going to load them onto their missiles and pop one off at somewhere in the world off their own backs without thinking about the consequences of it because of their national religion then they are seriously deluded.

THINK.

Do you honestly believe that someone in Iran will risk their entire country just for the sake of getting a cheap shot off at those who don't share their religion? Thats what it boils down to.

Its also how we've ALL been living for the past 50+ years, since the first bombers went on nuclear alert.

Its called MAD. Its a consequence of having such weapons.

Only in this case, if a nation did go rogue, the established powers really aren't going to look on it that favourably are they?

Let europe handle this.
Another war for the usa will not be good.
If ahmedinejad will ever build a single icbm with a nuclear warhead, a rain of bombs and missles will hit the iranians, paying back our debts to israel.
And we can test our leopard2 too.
