Treasures Found Inside Bolivian Pyramid

www.msnbc.msn.com

Archaeologists have uncovered the 1,300-year-old skeleton of a ruler or priest of the ancient Tiwanaku civilization, together with precious jewels inside a much-looted pyramid in western Bolivia.

The bones are “in very good condition” and belong to either ”a ruler or a priest,” Roger Angel Cossio, the Bolivian archaeologist who made the discovery, told Reuters on Wednesday.

He said the tomb — containing a diadem and a fist-sized carved pendant of solid gold — survived centuries of looting by Spanish invaders and unscrupulous raiders who depleted Tiwanaku of many precious treasures.

I love to hear this type of news. Finding a treasure which managed to escape being looted. I wonder what else is out there awaiting to be discovered?

Great find! News like this is always very interesting and makes you really think, "Have we really discovered it all?"

I'm waiting for them to find "The Tigers Gold" in the Philippines.

Indeed, I'm convinced we've barely scratched the surface.

You don't have to go halfway around the world to find such treasures. Do some research about your area and you will find many stories of "lost treasure and loot". Some of the stories are exagerated, others are hoaxes, but there are actually a lot of true stories of "hidden treasures all over the world. You just have to do lots of research, have enough money to invest in an expedition and be lucky enough to find it.

I think this is and awesome find, but what if we could just launch a robot probe into the jungle or into the ocean?

I hate the idea of mosquitoes or giant anacondas or even the idea of being unlucky enough to find snakes on a plane.

Seriously, when is a firm going to start using robotic probes here on earth to pre-test technology for space exploration? The thought came to me, and I know its not novel, that you could for the fraction of the cost of a team of people, send hardware to a suspected location and investigate from there. It would serve two purposes: locate the hidden treasures and also make sure that the robots you built were good enough for potential use in places like the moons of Saturn or other space research.
