I would also like to add that people get points for replies to their threads..I think that encourages us to make quality post when we do start a thread..I must admit when i first joined this site for the first few days I was a 'points whore'

I think everybody joining ATS get the Points fever the first few weeks. There are so many topics of interest and such a variety of posters there is a tendancy to overload yourself
and try to get a word in on everything.

Great threads are often made by the quality of the first posts. People want and enjoy a well thought out analysis or thesis even if they do not agree with it.

You can take my points away when you pry em from my cold dead hands

please don't take my points until I hit 10,000 after that I don't care.

Don't ask

I'd be happy enough if I could trade my points for food.

Especially when WW3 occurs.
I could purchase my food from the ATS store with my hard earned points and support my family. Everybody would be envious at my status as the ATS member.
Of course the ATS staff will survive and manage the food shipping. I strongly request an overseas shipping.

By the way, I apologize to mikesingh, for this post is stepping out of the subject.

Um...

1 post= 1 point
1 ATS applause= 500 points
1 AP applause= 1500 points.

Isn't that what we're doing already? Take ATS applause only. It would take 500 inane post to equal 1 quality post.

(Last line put in 'bold' by me, without the express permission of intrepid!!)

So 500 inane posts = 1 quality post. And 500 megs of bandwidth space on ATS servers to boot!!
Instead, the 'Number Of Views' column could have been yanked back into the matrix!! Logical.

Cheers!

Well for me the points are quite useful because I like to change my background colors and images sometimes. That takes a lot of points. Besides it kinda comments on a member themselves a bit. You can see if someone has been around for quite a while by looking at the point totals. You can also see where the person prefers to post by the amounts in the point total columns.

I agree with E-One on this one, trolls always have been and always will be a staple of the internet. The point of the internet is so that people can choose to voice their opinions freely. Here's the thing though, the bosses knew that trolls and trolling were going to be a problem and that is why they left the points system alone. They may have also realized that doing away with the points system would have upset a lot of members. It may need a little tweaking, but that will just have to wait and we will see.

I hope no one asked this yet.

I have a question for an admin:

Why does BTS (and I assume PTS but I didn't check) still have the "way above" system, but ATS does not?

Wouldn't you want to be consistent across all the boards?

Maybe you want to reinstate way above on ATS
?

I won't be mad if you don't, I'm not the one paying bills
.

Thanks for listening.

If I were truly interested in points, I would play video games ... Extensively. As it is, I am more into coming here, reading, writing, and learning, or at least thinking. You will note, please, that I have none of the trappings that accompany most elgible uids. One time, I irritated Springer, and he took 1,000 points. Didn't upset me other than the dumb circumstances. And that's water under the bridge.

I will admit that I miss the WATS. But it too could have been without points. Just liked the occasional approbation from someone who liked what I said, thought and wrote.

Personally I don't care for points, but I do think that there are many people who litter the board with pointless posts to amass them. The only thing which really irritates me about the point system is that, as a browser, not a poster, I don;t see myself ever getting enought to gain access to RATS. I've mentioned this before, could I propose that perhaps after being an active member for say 2 years one should be entitled to access?

I only think it's fair.

Hell, no!! That is one of the fine things about ATS, in my opinion. Points are sort of a honorary system in my opinion. If you were to take it away, at least in my opinion, you would take away much allure from the site.

A darn good idea!!
2 years and no trolling should automatically get you a membership to RATS.

Cheers!
