I just received a pack of dough and instructions on how to make this bread from my GrandMother and it takes 10 days to prepare.
They call it Hemin Bread or the Holy Bread of Padre Pio and it comes from the Vatican.
Has anyone on ATS received this or have they made the bread or know where it started.

I got something just like this a few yrs. back. I live in S.E. PA. and They call it 'Friendship Bread' here by the PA Dutch. Same directions, stir every day add more flour, H2O, etc., don't refrigerate, takes 10 days, divide into 1/4s and share 3 pts. with friends. After 3-4 days I chucked it out. Nasty! It's yeast, flour sugar and H2O that's allowed to ferment over the 10 day pd. I just couldn't bring Myself to bake it much less feed it to My family or give it to anyone else. It's probably not bad but that smell was too much, couldn't get past it.

Peace. K*

Sounds like nothing more than a sourdough starter with a story attached to it.
Various recipes and background here:
sourdough starter

No conspiracy here that I can see.
