I found this on Rense.com, they have it in a museum now.

RENSE

CHINA—On March 16, 2007, an unusual rock went on display in Beijing. This rock has "hair," almost identical to human hair, growing out of its "head."

The rock is iron gray in color, naturally smooth and rounded, and is similar to a cobblestone. There is also a very thin layer of scalp tissue connecting the "hair" to the rock. The hair is grey in color and similar to the color of the rock itself. The hair grows quite naturally from the top with the longest strands being about 15 centimeters (6 inches) long. The hair is slightly coarser than human hair.

Hope its not a repost!

Thats strange but the hair is not genetically related to humans. Maybe its sum kind of mold or fungus.

It looks to me like a rock with a wig.

But I will just keep an open mind and see it as an oddity.

prob from the guy who came up with the "pet rock" prob he asked himself: "what if...."

You did WHAT with a rock to create this?

That is awesome!

I suppose, seeing as they found it in water, that it's probably a form of fungus, or weed. Just resembles human hair... definately would be an interesting thing to find though!

Already been done. Remember the "Chia Pets(TM)" of the 90's?

Maybe your rock had an encounter with an infamous Oriental potion...

...as conceptualized by the magnificent Neil French, whom I once had the pleasure of meeting, briefly, in Singapore back in 1991.

Leave it to the Chinese to combine the fun of a pet rock with the excitement of a chia pet!

Pure Genius!

Hee Hee - That stone person wanted style -

It doesn't say anything about what the hair is, other than that it's similar to human hair - so does it contain keratin?

Those hair growing stones better watch out, someone might cook them.

I think they just stumbled upon a fantastic business. If the can figure out how that hair grows, I see a potential to replicate that on human baldness.

yea I was thinking, they cut hair off of pacific islanders and send it off to be turned into expensive hair extensions. some women grow head after head of hair, just to sell it each time. hell, id consider doing that and im a MAN.

anyways, since they only have 3 of em, theres no way they could get the massive hair growth needed to replace the human industry. and also, this hair must be like .. some weird mineral crap, probably coarse feeling, possibly not exposable to dyes etc..

Well the secret to the rock flowing hair, could be a great discovery for the hair growing industry.

If hair can grow from a rock . . . it can grow anywhere.
