The AG had a hearing with the Senate Judiciary Committee today. Many Senators both dems and gops called for his resignation. The part of the hearing that gives me pause is the plan to use the Patriot Act Reauthorization Bill of 2005 to bypass Senate confirmation of the new US attorneys.
During the hearing today Senator Schumer provided an email from Gonzalezs' chief of staff with just those plans.

We can not continue to give this government unchecked powers. With almost every new power granted by the Patriot Act a scandal filled with abuse follows. If we can not trust the Justice Dept. who can we trust?

Oh, I care.

The VTU tragedy has the MSM in saturation mode, so this story has been pushed aside.

Could be most members are waiting for the other shoe to fall on this one, cw says he won't last through May.

If we can not trust the Justice Dept. who can we trust?

LOL! That is a good one! Imo, this is not a good time to trust the DOJ, or anyone in elected or civil service in the federal government.

shooterbrody,

Thanks for posting this information. I feel it is very important for people to keep up with this, because the scandals that ensue from the turn of each page in our current history is laying out in bold print the futures that we shall all share.

The Judicial Branch is one means of balancing powers in our Government. If the Judiciary personnel can't even "interpret" the Constitution correctly, or they implement ways to bypass the Constitution, what have we got left?

We've got nothing, except a one way ticket to a totalitarian dictatorship, for which I for one, will not stand idly by and allow to happen. I will not "take my ball and go home".

Gonzales should be held accountable. His resignation (from this instance and others already played out) is something that should be demanded, and nothing else acceptable.

Info.

Interesting how this is sandwitched in between VA and NASA. And the massive bombings and death tolls in Irac.

Of course. Would you think for one minute the DoJ wants the American public to keep tabs on how messed up the AG is?

I would like to see the AG's hearings broadcast on the Comedy Channel. "Attorney General's Roast".

I just can't believe the AG's chief of staff put a plan together to circumvent the constitution and both the AG and his chief of staff are still employed by the US govt. This is the highest law enforcement position in the country. They had a plan on paper to circumvent the constitution.

It's all too much to swallow for many, but for most of us (especially here at ATS), we're aware of a lot of things that are taking place to demolish our Constitution.

This is not speculation. This is not accusation. This is a plan on paper. Documented evidence. And they both still have jobs. What is wrong with this country?

Not enough people are standing up against it.

I'd love to discuss it more, but I've got to go watch Wheel of Fortune.

For such a crass statement as that, shooterbrody, there goes your WATS from me. I'll give it to someone that really deserves it... like, Sen. Harry Reid or Sen. Specter.

I see this thread is becoming quickly derailed.

"(Former) President (Dwight) Eisenhower had a very firm rule, that presidents measured their subordinates by service to the nation, not by personal loyalty," Gingrich, a Georgia Republican who has been mentioned as a possible presidential candidate, told ABC's "This Week."
source

For once, Gingrich makes a comment that I agree with. I about peed on myself when I heard Gonzales make the comment that he serves at the pleasure of the President.

The President must have a lot of pleasure!

I missed this earlier. The AG certainly looked very bad and apparently has
Alztheimers. With that bad of a memory alone he should be replaced or at least be perscribed copius amounts of Ginco Beloba(sp) But I was really impressed when the president said Gonzales has done real well and has his full support. (Brownie) Perhaps that will be the kiss of death.

A. How can people make statements that are so obviously wrong?(Pres)

B. How can there be no public outcry when such ludicrous statements are made?

C. Apparently the post WWII acquisition of all those Nazi's has paid off with an all-out adoption of the Big Lie. Can 300,000,000 people be that gullible?

A) Not nearly enough people, care enough to do something about it. If there were enough people pissed off (or even paying attention), the Patriot Act wouldn't have been allowed to give this type of power... thus preventing this whole mess in the 1st place. Knee jerk reactions can get you a lot.

B) Refer to "A".

C) Not necessarily gullible, but more apathetic. Or complacent, if you will.
