This is a poll of sorts. I would like to ask members the following question ~

If you could change one event in history, what would it be and why would you change it?

Interesting question. A tactile subject indeed.

I would say I would like to erase from history the awful atrocities committed by the Japanese in WW2

Especially so for the Massacres in NANJING China and MANILA Phillippines.

Nanjing Massacre

Nanjing Massacre: 300,000 Chinese People Killed, 20,000 Women Raped

Manila Massacre

Various credible Western and Eastern sources agree that the death toll was at least 100,000 people. The massacre was at its worst in the Battle of Manila. Manila was called the Warsaw of Asia, being the most devastated city in Asia during WWII.

What drives people to do such horrid things???

Thankfully I guess I will never know...

All the best,

NeoN HaZe.

P.S. This should not be in the science and tech forum btw, more likely at home in BTS though Excellent topic it is

I would go back and stop the Americans from slaughtering thousands of innocent Japanese civilians in the A-Bomb attacks.

I still can't believe that Japan actually forgave America for it and that some people still believe it a justified act of war. Whereas in reality it was barbaric and committed without mercy.

If I could change any other, they would probably all be to change various things that America have done in the name of 'freedom'.

I'm new here. I wasn't sure where to put it.

Thanks.

I think they had no choice after the A-bombs the Russians had declared war and there was nothing other than a prospect of invasion or surrender. They accepted to the Potsdam Declaration... it wasn't a decision taken lightly...

Although I feel totally revulsion and disgust when faced with any innocent lives lost, I often wonder how many lives would have been lost if the war had not ended when it did.

However misguided the use of such a weapon may be, at least the Americans had a positive purpose for the use of the A-bomb.

It was meant to stop the war, and it succeeded.

If anything can be taken from this awful event, it must be the lessons we all learned about the awful aftermath and hopefully was the event that stopped us using such weapons again.

All the best,

NeoN HaZe.

I won't need to go into any great detail as to why I would change this event.

The Holocaust.

What might have been.

Perhaps if Adam had not eaten that darn fruit...

No, they had no reason to wipe out thousands of people, they did it to scare Russia, not end the war. The war would have gone on a little while longer, sure, but the Japanese were being cornered and would have no choice but to surrender.

Killing innocents is a war crime and there is no way it can be justified.

I would go back 8 million years ago and prevent hominids from splitting off from other primates.

You mean killing 214 000 people (and hundreds more afterwards died of radiation related diseases, plus the wounded and burnt, and the psychological trauma) and then setting up laboraties in hiroshima and nagasaki to study the effects of the bombs on humans, often buying dead bodies of poor families etc, is positive?

Let's face it, it was the perfect opportunity to test the new cool stuff on humans...

Let's agree to disagree on that point, shall we?

Suffice to say that if Japan had not committed such atrocities as they did, the US would have had no provocation to use such drastic measures as the A-bomb.

There are many who would agree with you and there are many who would agree with me, whatever you believe, what happened to Japan at the end of WW2 was a direct result of their own actions.

So, we have people focusing on only the U.S when there are countries who committed attrocities that make ours look tiny in comparison.

I would say the Holocaust, or one of the many other holocausts that the hebrew people had to endure. It's really hard to say without knowing what might have changed our own future.

*Waits for some self-righteous prick to say "The American Revolution" and feel cool.*

I would go back to a chilly December night back in 1980. I would sit outside the beautiful Dakota building and do whatever I needed to do to prevent the obvious from taking place.

I'd probably go back in time and shoot Karl Marx, then I would stop Archduke Ferdinand from getting killed.

That way I can stop communism and the two world wars.

I'd save so many lives.

I would go back in time and give Karl Marx a bullet proof vest.

OR I would go back and save Jesus from being crusified, just because if one more person tells me he died for my sins, well I would change that now wouldnt I.

Hmmm, I would go back and prevent Japan's oppressive sexism, that only legalized contraceptives for women recently, from expressing their fear of grown women by overtly sexualizing female children in their anime. Thereby stemming the tide of eros that legitimizes sex with children. Perhaps even putting an end to the sale of thongs in size 6x.

Either that - or get rid of money.

I would like to go back in time and tell my father that "I loved him" before he died.

I have no idea what I would do in an historical vein.

I would go back, pre-colonization, and properly arm the native people of Africa and the Americas.

And Chissler, the Dakota is a beautiful building!!! When I go to BBQ's and I step outside to have a ciggie, I walk all the down the block, just to soak it in.

edit to add: WHAT?! They sell thongs in a size 6x in Japan??? And we're worried about our moral degenerates...

MK ultra - ATS is infiltrated -

They sell thongs in size 6x in North America. Japanese mothers may not be buying them for their daughters and Japanese men probably prefer white cotton briefs as a more appropriate accessory to the vulnerability of the school girl uniform that now comprises the mainstay of eros in the profusion of the school girl themed night clubs dotting the Japanese night life scene.

One finds in cultures where there is more oppression against women, there is a tendency to sexualize them at younger ages.

Probably because children can't demand emotional reciprocity, or demand anything at all.

They're sold in most department stores and the industry refers to the demographic as 'prostitots.'

Onto you Harlem Hottie - hence the name....

Don't want to derail the thread, though - so I'll go back in history and make sure the Amazons are responsible for the birth of civilization.....

Actually there's a strong argument that women were responsible for changing humanity's nomadic ways - with an imperative to stay in one place, and even some suggestion that they were responsible for agriculture over hunting as a way of getting food.

Well, I would join Chissler, but since he's got John's back, I'd go to April 4th, 1968 and do a similar thing...
