Nice timing on this story. The day after a young person, who is reported to be on antidepressants, kills over 30 people, a study is released saying that suicidal thoughts are not increased by children using antidepressants.

And who sponsored this study? The study was supported by grants from the National Institute of Mental Health and Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

The Robert Johnson Woods Foundation. And what else did the namesake of the foundation found? That's right...Johnson & Johnson

Not only do they have there own pharmaceuticals devision, but they own Merck.

Involved in research, development and production of antidepressants.

I wonder if the families of the 30+ victims of the Va Tech Shooter would say the risk is worth it?

This article, to me, looks like a shameful attempt at spin control.

Exactly. That's reprehensible, how does he sleep at night?
I've heard study after study tell us that anti-depressants
for young people may cause suicide/homicide thoughts
and that it acts differently on an adults's sytem. Columbine
University, wasn't that done by kids on anti-depressants?

This article is propaganda fed by the drug companies in order to make more money.
I will list an article which states the exact opposite! These so called findings are nothing but a sham for the pharmaceutical companies to make more profits at the expense of our children's health.

Any kind of anti-depressant should not be taken by ANYONE under the age of 18. The persons brain is not fully developed before then and these drugs have been known to be harmful to even adults. There is not enough data about the long term affects of anti-depressants either.

Earlier this year, the British government warned that the anti-depression drug Effexor should not be taken by children. Now the UK is advising against the prescription of all antidepressant drugs (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors or SSRIs) for children, with the exception of Prozac, because these drugs increase the risk of suicide. The following is the statement by the MHRA (Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency):

Anti-Depressents Banned for UK Kids

They can't cure most dieases. What makes people believe they can treat people with depression. I say take them to a titty bar or out for some ice cream or something. Why are you going to give someone drugs that will affect their mood. These drugs are supposed to make people a little bit happy. But like most drugs it also has downers and shifts and it could have wild shifts, we dont know what these drugs do. How can we take the word of medical companies who work to capitalize their profits. The medicine industry should not be allowed to make money from their products. Or else their going to keep giving us half assed drugs that will screw with us. The medicine industry should be highly screended and the profits from their medicines should be put into the government not back into the medicine industry. Because that would fuel them to make more drugs that work part of the time, but part of the time they make things worse.
