Stunning Security Breach - Suicide Bomber Inside Iraq Parliament

www.msnbc.msn.com

A suspected suicide bomber blew himself up in the Iraqi parliament cafeteria in a stunning assault in the heart of the heavily fortified, U.S.-protected Green Zone on Thursday, killing at least eight people, the American military said. At least two lawmakers, and at least 10 other people were wounded.

Thursday's attack came hours after a suicide truck bomb exploded on a major bridge in Baghdad, collapsing the steel structure and sending cars tumbling into the Tigris River below, police and witnesses said. At least 10 people were killed in that attack.

Iraqi officials said the bomber struck the cafeteria while several lawmakers were eating lunch.

How could a suicide bomber get INSIDE the parliament? That has got to be one of the most stunning things I've heard of in awhile. Wouldn't you think that the security screening in the Iraq Parliament would see someone who was wearing a bomb?

General opinion appears to point at a sunni MP's bodyguard who did this.

You'd imagine that even the MP's and thier bodyguards would undergo the same checks as everyone else. I guess they will from now on anyway.

Sunni MP's bodguard possible bomber

Yanno for a second then when i saw this news break, i thought they would somehow figure a way to blame this one on Iran!

Would have been more than enough ammo for certain parties to stop thier so called "exercises" and do what has been planned for a while now.

A suspected suicide bomber blew himself up in the Iraqi parliament cafeteria...

Nothing funny about death and destruction, but a suspected suicide bomber? I would think that would be an open and shut case.

I think it is very revealing that he was able to get inside Parliment. Obviously, the Iraqi's are not taking seriously their need to take responsibility for securing their own country. What will finally get that message across to them?
