Obviously a case of snakes on a cruise liner, the sequel.

It does sound suspicious though, you would think a ship that size would have some approximate of a fish finder on board to avoid those types of situations. The cruise industry appears to become an attraction not only for disenfranchised pirates off the coast of Africa, but for all manner of criminals who can ply their malfeasance in International waters with less chances of discovery and prosecution. A number or rapes and missing people have been reported, some suspect cruise ships have become a haven for those involved in the human flesh trade. I also saw one very creepy story about a possible serial killer operating on a cruise liner. The guy had been standing at the rail when someone pushed him overboard. He survived by some miracle, but his assailant was never discovered. Sounds like someone planted an explosive.

Now that the cruise liner has sunk, 2 people - a man and his daughter are missing.

Sea Diamond is gone. Divers are preparing to go down to the wreck at 200 meters depth. 1,600 passengers and crew were evacuated. A 45-year-old man and his 16-year-old daughter is missing.

AS an Update:

It seems they are charging the captain and crewmembers for a misdemeanor charge of Negligence.

Amazingly, my daughter asked me yesterday if I would ever go on a cruise.
I said no due to the prevalence of gastrointestinal disorders that plague passengers.
This would be reason #2.

The Geek Navy is there because in most nations the work performed by our US Coast Guard is usually split between the Navy, the Customs Service, and occasionally the national police force.

In Greece, the Coast Guard is a division of the Greek Navy ... hence "military ships".

The most disturbing bit I found was that the crew...(yes albeit frightened!) were pretty much next to useless in both assistance and instruction??

I think the captain will have a lot to answer to within this?

this doesn't make sense...the amount of electronic navagational gear they have on these ships is incredible, i have been on the bridge of a liner and they have an array of instruments that measures everything but the amount of toilet paper used.

not only are shipping lanes known 'inside out' but I have experience with both sonar and radar and cannot see how this kid of accident or mistake can happen???
