Sunnis Vowing To Drive Al-Qaeda Out Of Iraq

www.timesonline.co.uk

Sunni insurgent groups that were previously allied with Al-Qaeda in Iraq have turned against it, killing its leaders, attacking its supporters and vowing to drive it out of the country.

At least two Al-Qaeda commanders have been killed by Iraqi insurgents in Baghdad. Others have been forced to flee after insurgents passed their details to US and Iraqi commanders. Fierce fighting has broken out between insurgent groups and Al-Qaeda in Anbar province, west of Baghdad.

I am not that familiar with the source of the article but hope this is true.

Can the Times Online be considered as a good source or not I ask our friends on the other side of the pond or are they a tabloid just trying to sell papers using gossip

I don't think this is a coincidence that this happens at the same time the Saudis are announcing that the US presence in Iraq is illegal. It sounds like some kind of compromise. Call me crazy, but I think this is proof that the issues surrounding this war are not going to be solved militarily. These people need to work this out themselves.

I am not sure if this might be related but it appears the the tides of war may and I am just saying may be turning against Al-Qaeda.

Pakistan Tribes Attack Al-Qaeda Bunkers

Pakistani tribesmen attacked foreign Al-Qaeda militants hiding in bunkers in ongoing clashes that killed five people in the nation's lawless tribal region, officials and residents said.

Pro-government tribesmen launched an assault overnight on bunkers occupied by the militants as part of efforts to drive them from the South Waziristan region bordering Afghanistan, they said on Saturday.

They seized seven bunkers dug into a mountain from where the Uzbek militants and their Chechen and Arab allies could launch attacks on the main town of Wana, they said.

Now the question we have, is this a coinincidence or a new trend in the war?

I can see where the Saudis may have influenced the Sunni's but I doubt they would also affect Pakistan at the very same time.

It sounds like the Iraqi Insurgents and the Taliban have finally had enough of Al Qaida. Al Qaida doesn't care about the Pashtuns or the Iraqis. They only care about their Holy War against the West. I hope they get driven out of both countries and to Somalia, the only place that seems to still like them.

Well, I'm not surprise that the Sunni's r turning against Al Qaeda. I read on yahoo news some time before that they are considering letting Sadam's baath party be part of the goverment. The baath party are Sunnis, so maybe this is a good idea to get the control back to the goverment and drive out Al Qaeda who doesn't respect no one, not even the Iraqis.

Wow...So Sunnis believe Al-Qaeda exist also? That was a joke. Just kidding. Although I have heard a lot of chatter that Al-Qaeda is a computer somewhere in the Pentagon.... I was starting to believe I was crazy in thinking they actually existed....Silly huh?
Well, I'm glad the Sunnis are working on it too.

yes the 'politics' of the situation is changing it's focus,
the 'Muslim Ummah' once a AQ staple has become a lesser motivation
than the 'Jihad' (as in physical rather than spiritual conflict) is seen as the
nuts & bolts of AQ action... in other words,
your quite right in saying "They only care about their Holy War against the West"

nothing AQ does, has a compromise/exit strategy !
much like our administrations presence over there !
...both the every-day, reasonable Arabs, & the every-day, reasonable Americans...are starting to mobilize against the madness these two fanatical opposites are forcing upon the world!

It would appear the new alliance if you want to call it that is working great. They have killed 21 near the Syrian Border.

Police report 21 killed by Sunni Tribesman

Iraqi security forces, backed by Sunni tribesmen, clashed Sunday with a united of al-Qaida fighters near the Syrian border, killing at least 21 members of the terrorist organization, police said. The fighting, near the border town of Qaim in Anbar province began after midnight and lasted several hours, said Col. Tariq Youssef, a police official in the city, 320 kilometers (200 miles) west of Baghdad. The colonel said "a small number of the tribal fighters suffered minor wounds" and all 21 al-Qaida members in the unit were killed. "The operation was launched by police forces backed by the Abu Faraj...

I can confirm that The Times is a fairly respectable newspaper and they don't normally indulge in gossip stories. Politically they tend to have a conservative bias though they are not very far to the right. They are not a tabloid and don't publish stuff that is factually incorrect. Their standards of reporting are quite high.
